Tourist Bus...ses
About this creation
My two tourist busses, Built to match the color-scheme of LEGOs mass-transit set-version. (the third one, on the right)

The first one is a two-storey luxury bus, 44 studs long and 11 bricks high. It is very long (as long as LEGOs 18-wheeler design) but due to the height the length is accurate compared to a real two-storey tourist bus.

I had four criteria while building it:
1: It should be built to match the mass-transit set tourist bus, so it had to be lime/white in color with blue (and red) seats and be no more than 6 studs wide.
2: It had to have two floors.
3: It had to follow the design of typical real tourist busses and be as accurate as possible without conflicting with the other criteria.
4: Inside space had to be optimally used. This criteria was not really needed, since tourist-bus designers already use available space in their designs very well.

A closer look at the lower level. It's not too accessible, so this will have to do.

End plate removed. Allows access to the engine for service.

Top floor layout:

A closer look at the engine section and the small toilet. I know the door to the toilet doesn't open properly but at least it's there. You can't have it all :-D

When the main project was finished, i had plenty of parts left. Some of them were used to build this luggage trailer, in Denmark affectionately known as a ski-trailer. It is 17 studs long, so it is a bit too long as well but like the bus the proportions actually fit. It makes for a monstrous 63 studs (including the gap between them) in length together though, so it's a real challenge to maneuver those narrow city streets!

Rear open:

A look inside. Not much to see here, move along (haha)

A quick look at lego's own tourist bus. I extended it two studs some time ago, to make it look more accurate in length compared to a real bus of this type. I also made a few other changes.

Another vehicle built from the leftovers. A simply designed minibus.

And finally the bus that started this project. A Government VIP bus! I finished it ages ago, but since it doesn't resemble the real presidential bus i never found an occasion to post it

Between the initial idea for the first bus and this post featuring them both lies three years of work and adjustments, an old episode mythbusters, a minigun van, the US President and his Secret Service, Ground Force One, a LEGO set, a broken train bridge (yes - of all things), a fortunate calculation error and even a new job.

Here you can see the error i mentioned. i originally intended both vehicles to be the same length, but by accident the new project became a bit longer, actually hitting the proportions of a real bus almost spot on. New parts will be bought for the black bus soon to match this new and better length.

I am personally very pleased with how this project turned out, the large bus (and trailer) in particular. I hope you like it too :-)

Quoting Jeroen Vanneste It is incredible beautiful. I would be interested in de building list and parts list. I'm commencing to start building a city for my son. I have the program Lego Designer. Thanks in advance. Sincerly yours Jeroen Vanneste
Hello Jeroen, thanks for your comment :-) That sounds like a great idea, i'm sure your son will like it. The buses were unfortunately done by hand guesstimating how many basic parts i would need, but i will certainly help you as much as i can. The windshield might be a problem though, those three window-parts are only available in specific city-sets. The two angled windows are found in the current 4WD truck and trailer-set (2x) and the vertical front window is found in the city corner-set or the mass transit-set.

Fantastic buses! They look quite good and you can fit a lot of people in them. The government bus looks scary, but honestly all giant buses scare when I have to share the road with them! Your lego city should be way more efficient now with all of those extra buses.

Quoting Topsy Creatori Oh my, I had seen these when they first were posted, and I meant to return to comment. Life caused be to forget. I think that nothing would be finer than traveling around Denmark viewing the sights in one of these! Lovely trio of designs! :)
That happens to me too sometimes, no worry :-) Thanks for your comment! And indeed, the view is awesome with all those windows. Similar buses were recently used as substitute for trains due to a broken down bridge in our region :-O

Quoting Nick White Those are some awesome bus's! I see you have a Marge Simpson. Do you like The Simpsons? Great creation!
Thanks! Yes i do, i followed the show until some years ago when i moved to a place without cable-tv. I am still a fan - not enough to buy the set house, but enough to want a few of the figures to put on a shelf. and a few more to vary the population of my city :-D

Quoting clayton Marchetti Wow! Awesome trio of buses. That bus is huge and I love the luggage travel trailer. I really love the mini bus.i think that's my favorite. It's small in stature but huge in character . Excellent work!
Thanks :-) I kinda like the minibus too but i am considering giving it a 3x6 windshield instead, to give it a more sporty look.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 impressive project, the biggest buses are monstruously big, maybe it could be an improvement to have the green line make the total length of the 2 decker, it would look leaner, otherwise, those buses are a dream! well done Allan!
Thanks Frank! Interesting you should mention that line - when i had finished the vehicles and trailer i actually considered something similar. I didn't have the parts to change it though, but i am still considering making a change to it. Maybe by switching all the white bricks under the top row of windows with lime ones, like on LEGOs version :-)
