Hello everyone, after a long absence I'm back and building strong! :)
About this creation
Ello mates, this is my entry for the first round of the MEMO (Middle Earth MocOlympics). I have to say, I was a little skeptical about doing this scene, but after seeing the finished product, I'm happy I did it.
I tried to make it as accurate as possible, although I wish I had a few more of "The Dead".
I see where you're coming from, but this scene in the movie is especially drab. There isn't supposed to be any "pop" of color. In the movie there were no bright colors, just grey, white, and black. Also, this competition isn't about photo-editing skills, where you add mood and coloring. This is a LEGO building competition, and I think this build really showcases the LEGO part, not the effects. Always good to have constructive criticism though!
this is a nice MOC and all, pretty well detailed and technically pretty good, but....eh. There's nothing that stands out. This is the kind of scene that needs a lot of mood and expression to get it right. Creepy lighting, abstract colors, etc. I can ignore the simple rockwork (although technically it's the build's main detractor) or the plain wall textures - what this really needs is mood and style, and I don't see any of that there. It's a nice build, I'm giving it a high score and all that, but...eh. It doesn't stand out as much as it could, and in a contest making something that stands out is key. Look at Nathan's entry for instance - original styling, unusual color choices...yet it all works. Another example: Dunedain's superb all-Lego photos to really capture the mood of the scene. That's what I'd like to see more from these technically-good-yet-bland entries. Anyway, nice build and good luck.
J-rod has returned from the Paths of the Dead! Finally! And well done on this MOC! The stonework here is awesome! The rockwork is also very good, though, it would look even better if some of it was SNOTed. But a fantastic MOC, nonetheless. Good luck!
That is one of the most amazing MOCs i have ever seen on the MOCpages you made everything fit perfectly. The rocks are amazing and those stairs are very cool. I very much like those statues at the top. I wish there was a rating above five
G'job, J-rod! You never cease to amaze. Yeah, I'm also gonna have to disagree with Alex. I think the rock style fits in with the scene perfectly. It looks very rugged and sharp, much how you would expect a cliff wall would look. The detailing is super cool. I love the gargoyles and architecture as well. Hoping you'll win! Best of luck.

Really great architecture and photography, although I think the rocks could be better. Best of luck, man!
Yeah, I had some difficulty with the rocks. I'm normally used to having some angles and having them a little more sloped. But in this scene, all the rocks are pretty much cliffs. So while I would've loved to do some more angled rocks, the scene really didn't allow it.
As soon as I saw this, I was like "Oh my goodness!" No literally that is EXACTLY what I said :P
Amazing job J-Rod!! The Rocks look great but could be better if you used more SNOT. The ground texturing is fantastic!! Good luck!
