East Brickley Layout
My stand alone layout for GWLTS V
About this creation
This is my layout I put together for the Great Western Lego Train Show at the STEAM Museum, Swindon, UK, 5th and 6th October 2007. It was well received.

The centrepiece of the layout is my East Brickley Station, which is based on the architectural features of the London Underground East Finchley Station; which is a famous Charles Holden art-deco design of the 1930s. There is also a factory, office block, and castle tower. The layout is an evolution of the one I displayed at Merrist Wood earlier in the year, as a half layout adjoining another.

It is all baseplate-based and was rapidly planned, once the availability of tables (to mount it upon) at the museum was known.

The most major structural feature is the twenty-brick-high back wall, in a similar architectural style to some on the Underground where subsurface trains run through cuttings.

For GWLTS I also built a train stand, to sit in the void in the middle of the loops, so that non-running trains could still be displayed.

The next display of the layout (in another evolved form) will be Merrist Wood in May 2008.
