Tappancs, a mosaic of the sweetest dog there is :)

About this creation

Hi! This is a mosaic of the youngest member of our family, our beloved Golden Retriever: Tappancs. This mosaic has a resolution of 204x143 LEGOŽ pixels (204 plates tall, 143 studs wide). I made it for my father's birthday.

Ok, now you may say, a black&white mosaic, it's as easy to make as to put a hat on a minifig. You just take the original image, run it in a program, and voilá, your image in LEGOŽ is ready, and it even has colours. But I thought, that this way it would be too easy, not my work, so I decided to make it myself.

Here, next to the images, are explanations of how I made my mosaic. ENJOY!

STEP 1: I converted the colour image into black&white, and resized it, so that the pixels would be visible.

STEP 2: I split up the picture into 6 main parts, and then printed them out seperately.

STEP 3: After having cut out the 6 pieces, I took one, and started making the mosaic...

STEP 4: Here you can see a transparent paper, on which I drew a grid containing tiny rectangles sized to 1/4 of a 1x1 LEGOŽ plate.

STEP 5: After having put the image to be 'copied' under the transparent paper, I started coloring, square by square the image. The idea is to color the rectangles black, if on the specific area there is more black than white...

STEP 6: The yellow spots you see were made after having finished a part. I drew them to help which squares I have passed already, whilst copying the result into a LegoCAD program.

STEP 7: And here it is, the mosaic is finished, with borders on the sides.

Onother view, the only inconvenient was that after a certain pieces, the CAD program became quite slow to handle movements of the pieces, coloring.
