About this creation
Lego Miller Park Version 4B: Current Model
In late July 2007, I tripped and required knee surgery. I thought this would be a short delay for finishing touches and I would be done before returning to school, but this wasn’t the case. Building the model became a major challenge since I was wearing a leg immobilizer and had to keep my leg straight. Shortly after returning home I found MLCad on LDraw.org and decided to build the entire stadium with the program exactly as it was built to get an accurate parts count and building instructions. On July 31, 2007 I began carefully taking large parts of the stadium apart and began the large task. Since I had access to the foundation once again I took another opportunity to make more changes to increase the building’s strength and detail accuracy. The CAD drawing and model rebuilding were completed on October 27, 2007.
During construction of my CAD drawing and the consequent model rebuilding I made the following changes:
- Redesigned yellow sublevel exterior outfield walls to remove vertical wall joints
- Added Lego® Fiber Optic “LED Board” on left outfield wall
- Redesigned interior outfield wall and bullpens for a much more realistic look
- Redesigned Suites and Press Box
- Redesigned Bernie’s Dugout Area
- Redesigned Terrace Level with stair cases as it has realistically creating concourse beneath
- Added two Concession Areas and Janitors Closets to Terrace Level
- Added massive & detailed HVAC room on Terrace Level
- Added HVAC ducts above the Terrace Level seating
- Added Mountain Dew Deck in right field
- Added "300 Club"
- Added fire alarms and emergency lighting throughout whole stadium
- Made two sets of exterior windows removable so the inside can be seen during displays
- Made new access panel and removable seating/floor sections to access four Mindstorms
I believe the resulting Version 4B model is the best Miller Park representation I can create with the size limitations I have. There may be a few small changes in the future to match what happens with the real building, but I don’t see any major model overhauls occurring in the future with the exception of some exterior landscapping.
Now that I have the building exactly how I dreamed it would look and an accurate AutoCAD plan, my brother and I created a display case to protect my investment and keep the dust out. A plan to get the model exhibited at Discovery World in downtown Milwaukee fell through in early 2007.
The model was exhibited for the first time at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Society of Model Engineer’s “TrainTime 2008” show on March 1st and 2nd 2008 in downtown Milwaukee Wisconsin.
MSOE's Walter Schroeder Library is currently displaying the unanimated model through August 26th. If you plan to drop by and would like to see the roof opening and closing please send an email to kaebisct@msoe.edu and I'll try to meet with you. For a video of the roof opening, map to the library, library hours, and additional display information please visit the MSOE Library Lego Miller Park Display site. MSOE recently conducted an interview and it can be seen on YouTube here!
Following the library display, the model will be moved to the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration on August 28th at Miller Park as part of "CLUB H.O.G. 25," a one day event. I will be answering any questions and operating the roof at this event. More information about this and other pending displays will be added in the future.
This model was featured 3/20/08 and 3/24/08 in a FOX 6 News story. Please note that the brick count was incorrectly stated as 75,000. You can see the entire story on the FOX 6 Milwaukee Website. While I have a very accurate final brick count, I'm keeping it a close secret for an upcoming contest for MSOE students, faculty, and staff! The correct figure will be released on this page by the end of May. Local WISN 12 News also ran a story 3/30/08 and 3/31/08 which can be viewed on their website WISN.com
In addition, my model was featured on OnMilwaukee.com and the baseball website Home Run Derby. Just click the associated hyperlinks to read them.
To see this version's complete set of pictures please visit my Brickshelf Miller Park Version 4B webpage! This is the largest set of pictures so far. Pictures from my MLCad drawing are also available on this site.
Enjoy looking and feel free to e-mail me at kaebisct@msoe.edu if you have any questions or comments. If you like my project and are a MOCpage member, please take time to rate it or write a review.
