The Ludgonian Industrial Union presents the largest non-military gun ever created (well, at least we think so), the LIU Girder Gun. Speed up the construction of space stations with this revolutionary machine.
The basic infrastructure of most buildings and space stations is the girder. These steel beams are essentially the skeleton of the building. The problem with building with griders in space is keeping them aligned in zero gravity. Not anymore.
The Girder Gun stores three girders in its "gun" (seen to the left of this pic). These girders travel down the chamber, are laser aligned, and are attached to the structure via plasma welding. With one machine doing the job, the accuracy of the girders' positioning is increased by 8%, putting the overall accuracy at about 98.3%.
Before we get to the "gun", let's take a look at the engines. Unlike most spacecraft, the Girder Gun's engine does not face straight back, but rather is curved to thrust at an angle. This special feature allows the Girder Gun to move sideways, an essential need for construction, as it must move a set distance sideways before attaching the next girder.
The back of the cockpit has a secondary thruster for forward movement, but it is reserved for transporting the ship to the scene. The opening of the curved main engine is also seen here. Note: This engine is also fun for doing space donuts.
Now we come to the cockpit, a boring, straight-forward cockpit. A single pilot sits in here and steers the ship.
A shot from the back.
The right side of the ship is home to the girder chamber, also called the "gun". As stated above, it holds three steel girders. They ride down the magnetic track and are attached to your structure. The chamber is then re-loaded with three more girders. Note all the pretty warning stripes and the ships unit number (#22).
The tip of the chamber has four plasma welders. The girders fed down the chamber are flash welded with these four contraptions.
Here, a girder is shown being ejected from the chamber. Woo-Hoo!
Note: This product has shown some use in the military field. If the plasma welders are removed and the magnetic track sped up, the girders can be fired at a pretty good speed. This has been shown to devastate ships with weak hulls. However, the LIU will not make the modifications. We'll leave that to you.
OK, we'll take 5,000.
Our empire isn't that big anymore after that incident in the Megabloks Research Lab...
When I came to inspect the safety facilities I knew they were hiding something!
And why was there no special superglass in the Megabloks-Nuke facility...
Once again, it's a cool ship, a good idea well-executed... but... it needs... something. There are some good construction techniques here, but somehow it comes off kind of bland. I think it's because of all the smooth surfaces and uniform colors. You know what your construction vehicles need? Some grey greebles sticking out in a few odd places. That'd really add some authenticity to the construction look. Still, it's a cool ship, as I said. Good job.
You really are excelling yourself with your futuristic domestic and construction vehicles.
The LIU is developing some trully awsome and brilliant designs to solve a great many mundane civic duties.
The Girder gun is no exception - It truly is as simple as it sounds and the design cues are simple and efficient.
Love the colour too - another excellent addition to the LIU.
Cool!almost like a staple gun... except bigger....way bigger. I like how each and everyone of your MOCs are an origanal idea. Anyway, sorry I have'nt posted in a week, but Its been hectic in my house (holiday season, ya know). Hpefully I will get some pics of my newest fighter up soon, like late tomorrow.
Thanks to Kelso now I can't help but picture this things firing giant girdles at enemy ships!...but nontheless a great piece of astro-engineering. I've just finsihed an asymmetric ship myself; ASYMMETRY RULES! Bob Flux is sure to dig the yellow livery. Well done LIU!
Very Nice! Well done. Not unlike a ship I once built called the "Girdle Gun." It was similar in shape, but instead of girders it fired girdles and such. (Nothing keeps your enemies at bay like launching women's undergarments across the vast reaches of space!)
First off all, emperor, sorry for the long time whitout reviews, but republic vaiano is actualy making a new ship for itīs fleet, and it is huge!
I like the color scheme, and the shape is also very creative. the cockpit also rocks!
1# admiral vaiano ( Bruno Vaiano, for you! hehe!)
The LIU continues to revolutionize the construction industry! Great job making it look the part. Very creative idea... how the problems of the future must plague your dreams for you to come up with this stuff! Somebody could have a pretty devastating fighter or mech if they threw on one of these and a plasma cutter.
