No, he DOESN'T want to go home and rethink his life!
About this creation
A deathstick smuggler ship named "Ratbag",
piloted by Gweeb Quasar (yes, that'll do).
Basically a flying cargo hold (semi-circle section)
with a salvaged engine (with hyperspace capacity)
and the rear of a speeder for a cockpit.
Spray paint it all black, with a bit of red for contrast,
and you've got yourself a devious little Ratbag;
supplying the galaxy with delicious deathsticks!
What is it about asymmetrical ships that look so
devious, underhanded, slapped together and above as COOL?!
After seeing Matthew Rames' Plagor ships
(http://www.mocpages.com/folder.php/18304) with their
fantastic use of black UFO quarters, I was inspired to
use those black UFO sections in my own creations.
And I enjoyed doing a smuggler's ship so much I may just
try some more, so consider yourselves warned!
Note the cooling fins on the side of the engine. I gotta stop using these; I feel like I add them to everything I make!
You can see in this photo how the connection to the engine sags. Hey, smugglers can't afford the best; they have to make do with what they've got!
The cannon can swivel. Useful for fending off those nosy, do-gooder Jedis!
Oooo she's falling!
Ah, caught it on the first bounce...
Time to make a deilvery.
Here's Bor Cindas to collect his shipment.
"I'll just open the cargo hatch"
"There we go. As you can see Bor my friend, the deathstick containers are disguised like drums. Look:"*thump de thump thump*
"There's your pay"
Sometimes Bor gives gives Gweeb all coins instead of Republic credits. On these occasions, Bor gets his head slammed in the cargo hatch a few times...
In case of emergency, or to make a less conscipuous delivery, the cockpit can detach and be used as a speeder. There is room for one deathstick canister. Just.
How cool are these old school hinges. I HAD 2 of these but now post Dark Age, I ended up with the chipped one...
My dirty little secret: tried Lego ballast first but when that wasn't enough I used Blu-tac. Just so that we're honest with each other.
that is one neat ship! it reminds me of mandal motors' tatered angel, due to the really asymetrical nature of it. it is really hard to go wrong with a black and red paint shceme, as you have seen in your psychotron upgrade. Keep making ships! the ones you have are really good!
The asymmetry gives this ship its uniqueness. I know that you have limited pieces, but taking a venture into Bricklink can greatly help. I'd recommend the reds on this be less scattered and more coherent. Patches or stripes as opposed to misc dots will look better.
This looks pretty stinkin' sleek and deadly for something named Ratbag and that's "basically a flying cargo hold"! The asymmetrical design isn't easy (to make look good) but you pulled it off really well. I love the huge engine... great for making speedy deathstick deliveries. And also great um... cargo hold space to ship size ratio..
"Ratbag" sounds like a good name for a garage band. You can thump-de-thump-thump on the drums with a deathstick hanging out of your mouth, I'll screech unintelligible vocals while thrashing out fast sloppy power chords on my guitar. Now we just need a bassist...
