See the rubber band? Well, I originally wanted to use the rubber band to make it actually shoot, and it WILL do it... sort of. But it doesn't work very well. Not like an official LEGO set, or a happy meal toy, would...

This is not a good view to have of the Uruk-hai Siege Ballista. You remember that guy that got hit in the chest by it and was sent flying off the wall of Helm's Deep? I think he did that famous scream you hear in all the movies.

As you can see, I was unable to make a spear that looked like a grappling hook... Any ideas? Anyone?

"Dang, Braktu, wasn't this thing supposed to be lower?"
"Just load the bolt, you lazy sod!"
(don't try to verify the name "Braktu" was in the books because... it wasn't)

"Why couldn't we have gotten a troll or a warg to pull this thing? Blasted Saruman... needs better division of labor..."

The model is based on the miniature one I bought. Those two by four plates on the back are used to crank the bolt into place. No, they don't actually DO that on the LEGO! Sheesh...

The Ballista is my favorite type of siege engine. Unfortunately, it usually stinks in strategy games. I hope you can put them to good use in the upcoming Lord of the Rings strategy game, the Battle for Middle-Earth.
In reply to Mr. Chair: In the movies, the Uruk berserkers used large, two-handed, double-sided versions of the Uruk-Hai soldiers' squarish swords. My version was made by cutting short the blades on a LEGO pickaxe and sticking it in a gray "lightsaber hilt." It's not "a lightsaber" since I've never really seen a lightsaber with a solid metal blade with a pair of long hooks sticking off the top...

really nice! that's a brilliant idea for the Uruk-hai's sword. personally I love the goblin swords with the two little points sticking out on the top of the sword. ...excluding when you're going up against one, as the points tend to hook onto you and pull you to the ground. and yes, I like ballistas too (though I prefer trebuchets more). by the way, there ARE a good number of grappling hook-like pieces that, if you remove the spear piece, should work for this. |

nice! for the grappling thingy, I'd somehow combine a normal, 3 hooked lego grappling hook with the spear, sorry, confusing; I wasn't too sure about the uruks, u know u can get proper ork weapons from brickforge, and the beserkers are supposed to have helmets. Still, good work. 5/5 |

It's very nice, but the one in the battle had a lever and the hook was supposed to separate into three claws/hooks. Maybe you could fix that with some clay. |

If you use that little piece that has four prongs and i used for palm trees in some Lego sets, you can make a Grappling hook. |
