So, after looking around MOCpages, I have concluded that there are only 3 Mumaks worth mentioning. One is mine, one is made of Bionicles, and the other is totally out of scale. When browsing around MOCpages one day, I decided that something had to be done about the lack of decent Mumaks out there. So, I made one myself, designed to be movie accurate.
I have a Creator set that has a wholly mammoth as one of the alternate models. I decided to take that, and make it. From there, I changed the body so that it worked, and then changed the head some. I decided that it needed to be grey (the original was red) so I redid the whole thing. After that, I made the tower. After a few tweaks, this is the final result.
This is the set that I started with. You will have to copy and paste it.
Front, with figs. Notice the, uh, pilot (that is the bald one). He was suppose to have reigns attached to the mumak's ears, but that did not work in exchange for the poles.
Notice that the side of the mouth has a very small, sort of mini tusk. Yes, that is in the movie.
Tired of this side yet? Well, the other is the exact same thing.
My Nazgul. My family thinks it looks like Vader, but that is just to bug me.
The mouth. You can see that is has one, and it's 4 tusks.
Some have spikes on the tusks, and some have this: the barbed... rope in between the tusks to ram through the people. I had to twist the chain in order to get it the right size.
3/4 without figs. Doesn't it look so much better without those pesky Clones and Exo-force guys on it?
Top three layers. There are 4 in total, like there are suppose to.
Okay, so it really does not have fire, but come on! It looks cool!
Back without people.
Without Jar Jar. I think that it turned out very nice. The walls are suppose to get shorter in the middle.
This is a high shot. I wanted to show that the tower is supported by four poles (like the real thing). It is a little hard to see it with the people.
To compare for size. It's my Nazguil.
The red part of the head is not part of the tower. Some of them have dark red painted onto their foreheads. I thought it looked cool, so I did it.
Same thing with the legs.
So, some flaws. 1) Obviously, the minifigs. They are sadly about 3/4 of my minifig collection. So, I could not do much about that. 2) Size. The mumak is about 1/2 the size it should be. I started running out of good grey/black pieces, so, maby I will fix that later. 3) The tower should be hexagonal shaped. The Mumak is too small, so I can not do it right. 4) Not a very clean design. Again, size made everything worse. I will do a 2.o in the future... soon I hope, but probably not.
So, any hints suggestions, or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and for the record, at this point I could have done an okay job minifiging it with real castle minifigs (not perfect, but better than clones and exoforce guys). However, this think is long gone, and I'm not rebuilding it just for that.
Reply to Lee Jones Yah, I really want the spacy figs to go, too. I mostly had them there to show that they could, but, I would love to have some Haradrim up there instead. Any donations?
Reply to blahnoc ramon Yes, thanks for not saying anything about the figs. I know it is too small. I REALLY want to make a 2.0 later, but the question is "when". I did have to rebuild it a few times to get it good, and now I want to remake it again.
Reply to Nokiswaki Jackson Well, I kind of like how the tusks are, at the moment. I would have left them out, but I wanted to show that they could go there. Finally, I am glad that I had a good idea for you to use.
Reply to Eggplant Anonymous Yah, his is bigger. So what. I do think that with the scale, he could have gotten it perfect, and he did not. He is missing a few layers, and such, where as MINE....
Reply to alex macdonald Honestly? Did you not read my explanation? They are there because I had nothing better at the time (my collection has grown a bit since then). I wanted to show that they could be there. I don't like the clones any better than you do.
This mumak is good, but other ones out there of course. Have you seen the one built for this years battle contest? It won't let me post a link here, but goto brickshelf and type in Mumak and elephant in the search engine.
Hey thats a pretty sweet mumak! i tried making one with the lego made elephant, it didn't work, i like this wone though. You should see if you should get some more spiky weapon things on the tusks and make the trunk longer. Also, you should either get good minifigs or just leave them out. But overall i like it! Oh and by the way a while ago you gave me the idea to use exoforce joints on a balrog, and i did and it's sweet. thanks!
this is very nice, I like lotr... I saw a review of yours on a moc of the day, I think you should now that the creators that have had a moc of the day did't chose for it, they can't do anything about it so it is a bit unfair to vote lower because you think it isn't worthy of moc of the day. But I agree with the 4 you gave on that strange yoda. I just want you to know
looks great and has some pretty remarkable build techniques. the problem is the size, though. I often find that what I build is too small and end up having to rebuild stuff. I think this is one of those cases. good coloring, but this definately deserves a bigger version two. (Im not even gonna complain about the figs.)
