The HM-1 was the first Mech I built. HM stands for Heavy Mech. I first was interested with building a Lego Mech when I played a computer game called Mech Warrior 4: Vengeance. After thinking about what kind of Mech I wanted to build, I finally decided to build a heavy Mech and I instantly began drawing sketches of several different designs I had come up with. I also did some research on the Internet. When I finally started building, I decided to start with the legs.
I began building the legs I had designed on paper, but after attempting to build stick with the design, I found it wasn't very sturdy. After a bit of trial-and-error, I completed the legs. Then I began building the torso and head, which was a bit easier. Next, I assembled the weapons, a six-barreled rail-gun, a heavy plasma blaster, and two rocket launchers. Then I attached the weapons to the torso, and then proceeded to place the torso on the legs. I was quite shocked to find that the whole thing toppled over. Evidently, the weight of the weapons, which stuck out in front of the mech, made the mech fall forward. To fix the problem, I placed some Lego boat weights on the weapons so that the mech was finally balanced.
The whole project took me almost a week, but I was quite satisfied with the end project. I ended up changing the Mech's weapons and making the legs stronger. The final product is what you see here.
