Wolfjæger and Hermes, two Bordurian mecha built to fight side-by-side.
About this creation
These are pieces for a strategy game called Roroga that I've been working on for a while. It's going through a third major revision, after which it will be a LOT more fun. Will I get around to posting some Roroga action pics? Who knows?

Completed 5/2004.

Aerial view of the scenario. The Hopper scout robot has been destroyed by tanks before it could reach its Goal but Legion has been knocked out, as well. Big Red is trying to maneuver for a better shot at Wolfjæger. Big Red's Tommy Gun has apparently been taken out of commission.

Wolfjæger stands almost 30 meters tall. The weapon is a high-rate-of-fire piece of artillery. It requires both hands to fire. If one arm is damaged, the weapon is abandoned and the laser pistol on Wolfjæger's right hip is used instead. The small missile launcher is liable to be ditched in an actual Roroga game.

Closeup of Wolfjæger's sensor head and upper torso assembly.

Wolfjæger's left hand has an open clip for a thumb where the right hand has a two-stud tube. The clip allows it to hold a greater variety of objects, but the tube allows a better grip.

The better-gripping, but less flexible right thumb holding his gun.

The waist swivels on the z-axis by a headlamp brick with a 1-stud connection front and back.

"Hey, has anyone seen where I put my giant car keys?"

Note: 2D ankles, 2D knees, 3D hips and shoulders 2D wrists (I can't figure out how to fit another degree of freedom in the wrists), 3D waist, and 2D neck. Even the toes have 1D of freedom. The thumbs aren't opposable. Next time.

Wolfjæger's pilot in its hand. If that's the pilot, I don't know who's piloting it to hold him up. Who cares!

My 10-year-old upstairs neighbor, Chris, asked me what kind of gun this is. I said "It's not a 'braaaaap' gun, it's a 'pum pum pum pum pum' gun." I was laughing with my friend Vincent about the absurdity of 1 meter shells in rapid fire.

The item on Wolfjæger's right shoulder is an ECM transmitter.

These ankles are OK, with 2 degrees of freedom. I wish they were less strange looking, though.

Hermes is a light, fast mecha. The pilot has opted to carry a recoilless rifle on his back for good measure, but the machine's strength is in its speed and ferocious close-quarters speed.

The recoilless rifle adds range flexibility to the mecha. Note the mission payload attached to the right arm. Roroga's all about achieving goals, not just smashing your opponents.

Note the similarity to Wolfjæger's foot. Hermes was done first and is a maquette of Wolfjager. I used it to figure out design ideas, particularly this ankle design.

Hermes is like a 75% scale model of Wolfjæger. The head structure is almost identical, but with fewer parts.

Supported by a Hector tank and a small troop of Bordurian Marines, the two mecha walk toward their objectives, expecting trouble.

I like how you built in the scale that matches the little 1X1 figure size. I don't remember seeing that before. The Wolfjaeger is my favorite of the two, excellent articulation, great proportions, ingenious hand design, and that rifle looks sweet. More!
