Norfolk & Western 'A' type locomotive
The engine is a semi-scale attempt to compromise between the Big Ben brick driver size, the size and layout of the real engine and the operational requirements to work on a 9v layout with curves and points (switches to any US readers :) ) Feel free to feedback, I probably won't make any changes to it though, I know they were really all black but I used some grey to give the eye a bit of a break and because I'd run out of black.
Uses a 9v light for the pilot headlight, one in the tender for the tail light and 2 in the cab to provide a nice 'firebox glow'.
There is a minifig driver and fireman in the cab.
The original engine was articulated and so is this to run round lego 9v tracks. No - the originals didn't swing out so much at the cab but at least it works on lego tracks.
Top marks to Jim :), I did model this on images of N&W #1218, but without the later additions also used were images by O Winston Link. NEW IMAGE with the transfers.
Yes, all of the coupling rods, the piston rods and piston/cylinders move the same as on the real engine.
