This took a long time to build. My wife was quite distraught throughout the whole process. Lots of redesigning to get everything just right. i almost gave up in the beginning trying to get the steering to function with suspension in a smallish package.

The scale is a little smaller than techinic figure scale. i measured the model, divided it by the real Puma dimensions, and got 1/25.

Gripes:
-should have 3 smoke dischargers on each side. i never found a way to do 3 without it looking tacky or too large for the turret. the binoculars were a compromise.
-no side storage bins. i tried for a bit, then realized it was impossible, even with this larger scale.
-main gun does not elevate enough. argggh!

Good Stuff:
-8 wheel steering, via the rear spare (very fun to play with)
-opening hatches & vision flaps
-suspension

Modified Lego:
-exaust pipes are cut from hollow lego tubing
-co-axial mg is cut from lego rod
-neither of those is cheating in my opinion

i feel that i captured the feel and look of this magnificent machine quite well, although the lego lines are deffinetly not as smooth as german engineering.

decals are printed on label paper and stuck on. cheap and easy; doesn't wreck the lego piece. note the rear spare that turns the 8 wheels.

turret was pretty difficult, especialy to get nice hatches on it. the real Puma hatches rotate 360 degrees, that is beyond my skill level. apologies for the one dark grey smoke discharger.

all the hatches open, including the 3 engine doors. i tried to fit some engine detail in, but it was difficult with the u-joint for the steering directly below, and the 1/2 stud off-set top engine hatches.

the suspension works because of the flexibility of the steering arms. this also means that the steering is just a little sloppy.

the steering via the u-joint to the rear spare is evident. it worked out really nice in the end, after weeks of struggle.

Nice! I have a book with one of these tanks in it. The detail makes it look like the real thing,

Hi, That's a great MOC! Have you seen the Flickr Military LEGO competition? If you build something new before the end of May you could enter it. http://www.flickr.com/groups/legomilitary/discuss/72157604182049397/ Info is also on Lugnet. There is a Q and A and a submission thread on here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/legomilitary/discuss/ Would love to see what you come up with. cheers Magnus

Nice to see you back, Daniel. Where ya been? This is a very good vehicle, I think you hit the nail on the head. I'm especially liking the turret detail, very good work on that.

Amazing job as usual. Your use of the technic pieces to produce such realistic engineering at this scale always and will continue to impress me. Great job!

Hey Daniel, nice to see you again after a couple of years. I see you have improved your vehicular building skills. Very nice work on the Puma Armored Car. The Wheels, and suspensions really knocked me out.

Dan's back! ... and bigger than ever?, 1/25 scale? Say it ain't so. Perfect MOC only spoiled by not having smiling minifigs at the helm. Honestly though, great job. I had no idea that these units had multiple steering axles. Wow. On a sidenote: I'm still putzing on a CAD file of your T-18. I should email you some more progress pictures. The hull is proving quite a challange. Glad to see you.

Excellent MOC. I love the WWII period. A little mistake about the scales on your home page : minifig scale is about 1/43 and not 1/30.
