A fighter plane lies in it's cold tomb, somewhere in the vastness of the ocean, guarded over by a solitary crab.
The kelp sways gently in the faint current,
bullets slowly rust in their feeder links;
an invisible monument to the absurdity of war.

Why are some generations destined to be ground up in the mill of War
while others bask in the sunshine of Peace? What is the madness that
overcomes whole nations to kill men, women and children they do not know?
Why do they blindly follow their politicians to foreign lands?
How does a belief lead to slaughter? Why do we draw lines on maps
and build fences around our homes?

Build notes: The plane is a generic mixture of WW2 fighters.
I wanted it be look universal and not just a wreck from one country,
but a monument to ALL countries. Doubtless you hardcore
WW2 plane boffins aren't impressed ;) The colours are an attempt
at rust and algae slowly returning the steel back to Nature.
I was going to add divers but it changes the mood.
(Photos are on the dark side but that's in aid of the mood too).
Props to me homey Shan Young for the lightsaber blade thru da
axle hole brick thing.

I'll leave you with the opening dialogue from the
movie "The Thin Red Line" (the best war movie made imo):

"What's this war in the heart of nature?

Why does nature vie with itself?

The land contend with the sea?

ls there an avenging power in nature?

Not one power, but two?"

This is fantastic, man - well built, great atmosphere & thoughtful commentary as always, so awesome. I don't frequent MOCpages so much anymore, but people like you are the last bastion of hope for this place. You should come over to flickr though ;) Peace out

The fallen plane is great, very realistic, but the commentary really makes you think.

it still amazes me how well you bring our hearts and minds into your MOCs, whie still being a very good builder! this is one of the best yet! who would have thought to make one of those fallen planes out of legos?

Wow... Why do men fight so much? Do we just like to see each other in pain? Well... this is an eye opener for me. Good job.

This is really well done! I actually not too long ago watched a show documenting the retrieval of a German WWII plane that was left in pretty good condition on the sea floor and this captures the murky, decayed, and underwater look absolutely masterfully! Nice to see such LEGO artwork!

This is great! Kinda reminds me of flight 19 over the Bermuda Triangle, when those 5 planes disappeared, and were found years later underwater.

its a nice build. but all that sappy hippy stuff just annoys me. wars are generally fought by the good/right to stop the bad/wrong. each side generally think they are the right/good trying to stop the bad/wrong and the easiest way is to eliminate it. (also big wars can be considered as a bit of population control).

There is a fundamental sickness in the human species. We at once have a horror of, and a love for, violence and war. The urge to destroy our fellow man leads us to peaks of accomplishment we would otherwise never attain; so many of our technical advancements arose out of the quest to kill more efficiently, and on ever-grander scales. And all it took was one twisted mind millenia ago, one guy that thought "might makes right" and put the idea into action. All his neighbors had to adopt that mindset or be slaughtered. In this way the sickness spread. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway - great, fantastic MOC, perfectly built and thought-provoking. What more can anyone ask for?

Darn man - this is your best creation to date. Although, with a head pounding this morning from too much Australian red wine last night I wish you hadn't made something so thought provoking. Lee.

I wouldn't worry about the accuracy of the plane. We all know it's the thought behind the build that matters. Speaking of which, why do you have to go and make me think. It's 6 am over here and I've been working all night! I'm tired and ready to go home and you go and make a thought provoking piece of gold. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with next. Later ~ Chris. p.s. could you do something funny so we (the community at large) could post some witty repartee.
