One of the most famous warships of the Second World War.
About this creation
Welcome to my MOC-Page!

History:

The German battleship Scharnhorst, one of the most famous warships of the Second World War, was the lead ship of her class and was named after the Prussian general and army reformer "Gerhard von Scharnhorst" and to commemorate the First World War armoured cruiser SMS Scharnhorst that was sunk in the Battle at the Falkland Islands in December 1914.

The Scharnhorst usually sailed into battle accompanied by her sistership, the equally famous Gneisenau. She was sunk at the Battle of North Cape in December 1943.

Next to the Bismarck, the Scharnhorst was the second largest battleship of the German Kriegsmarine.

As a sideline to Operation Juno, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau sank the British aircraft carrier HMS Glorious and her escorting destroyers Acasta and Ardent on 8th June 1940 at around 64 degrees North of Norway.

Scharnhorsts salvos hit Glorious at 16:32, before her torpedo-bombers could be launched. Scharnhorst's second salvo at 16:38 struck Glorious at the extreme range of 26.300 yards, one of the longest range direct hits ever recorded.

Glorious sank shortly after 18:00.

What scale is your German Battleship Scharnhorst? My LEGO Yamato battleship is 1/108 or 1" = 9'. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/101888 I want to build a minifig scale size of the German Battleship Bismarck. -Marcello

WOW! The only ships i've built are a 9" long Fletcher class and a 12" long Admiral Scheer. That, along with Brian Hasting's Heerman are the worlds greatest lego models. Edit: add a 21" Enterprise, a 24" Iowa, a 23" Yamato, a 16" Baltimore, a 14" portland, a 20" Eagle, a 12' Bogue, and more, all 1/484th scale. Check out the ones we have posted!

This is just awesome. Most builders wouldn't even attempt this. The details are awesome and I like your page. I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to build this without fancy pieces so I wont put you down for that. Great job.

I am very much impressed by this model. Currently i am building a wooden model of the bismarck and i was looking into maybe building a lego version. Than I ran into your scharnhorst wow amazing. Now i wonder do you have a sort of building plan or instructions made during the process and if so is it possible to acquire them. With regards Lucas

Hi, That's a terrific MOC! Have you seen the Flickr Military LEGO competition? If you build something new before the end of May you could enter it. http://www.flickr.com/groups/legomilitary/discuss/72157604182049397/ Info is also on Lugnet. There is a Q and A and a submission thread on here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/legomilitary/discuss/ Would love to see what you come up with. cheers Magnus

Brilliant model of the Scharnhorst, I've heard quite a bit about this ship. Along with the Tirpitz, this was one of the biggest threats to the allied convoys to Murmansk. You've obviously put a lot of work into this, and it shows! Excellent job!

Beautifully done! It's always impressive to see large scale MOC's done with this degree of skill. The bits of information on your page were a nice touch also. I know (all too well!)SHIP's can be time consuming and expensive, but the payoff is certainly worth it. Congrats on a great build.
