They call him Mellow Yellow-quite rightly!
About this creation
Ok, I need a break from serious stuff, time for a little FUN!
Introducing Mellow Yellow, newest racer to the Asteroid Belt racing circuit.
His name comes from his laid back off-track demeanour, but don't let his
cool personality fool you-once he's on the starting grid he's one MEAN MACHINE!
Tried to protect the Mellow's head by placing it in between the engines.
Also the heat from said engines would help to keep the head warm and
take some of the work off the life support system in the cold vacuum of space.
I may have been sub-consciously inspired by a Loader droid from an old
Amiga game called Rise of the Robots (TERRIBLE game, cool graphics).
Also, I just realised Mellow's nose looks similar to Roger Aalenfae's
Kestral C-73 http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/49399
Dude, I swear I didn't copy. I swear!
Here's a brief intro to the cyborg raceship theme for those newbies
who're probably wondering what the heck I'm talking about:
The coolest sport of the future is Asteroid belt racing.
Some races are held in the Asteroid Belt beyond Mars,
others in Saturn's Ring System; all are very fast and very furious.
Now, no ordinary human pilot can negotiate the treacherous rock field at
the speed these guys throw down. No, only a brain directly "wet-wired"
into an ultra responsive raceship can meet the challenge.
The cyborg racers are a motley bunch, with everything from simple double amputees
strapped into their ship, through to a brain digitally downloaded and
encased in a crystal matrix. Their "bodies" or ships are as varied
as their personality; some ships delicately glide thru the
dangerous proto-planets, others prefer to just smash their way thru!
So feel free to build your own raceships. The only rule is that the
head must be protected from the harsh environment of space.
However, if there is only a digital brain then it is not as vunerable as flesh yes?
The cyborg's personality is important too; a funny story that ties in with
the creation is very cool. For e.g. what does the cyborg get up to when he/she's not racing?
How did they become a cyborg? etc. The more imaginative, and humorous, the better!
Oh, and you get brownie points if you name your racer after a song...

I actually spent 5 mins on the underside on this one.
The tile with the wrench icon is a maintainence access panel.

Attitude adjustment jets on "arms".

Er, panels to protect from asteroid debris?

Before I added the crane piece/nose. Not bad, but needed more...

I was inspired by this headphone design I saw in a newspaper. I'm always
on the lookout for weird shapes!

Always a cool thing to look at here. Love this yellow silly raceship ! I'm happy to see another MOCer who use Technic steering parts as space greeble, don't know why it's uncommon because it's nice I think. Thanks for your kind comment !

Very nice. I really love the shape. I am wondering, is it ABSOLUTELY a rule for it to be named after a song, or just kind of a fun thing? Just wondering. |

Built-in head warmer, you can't beat that. The rest of this racer is amazing as always. Interesting inspiration as well. |

So... when there not racing, the groupies polish what? Their hulls? I'm just trying to figure which appendage... never mind. Your builds never dissapoint Shannon. Is it gluttonous to be wanting more from you already? Later ~ Chris. |

This is really cool, and the shape is great. You should try and make a military model. |

I thought I already reviewed this one... well, all I can say is that I love it! It's ridiculously agile looking: a look I'd like to achieve if I make another cyborg racer. The center portion was a great addition! Seamless design! |

Another fine creation - you seem to pounding them out lately. Well, I have my name and the body designed & built for mine, but the final build will have to wait until late summer. Lee. |

It is a very nice color scheme, which you have a knack for. Your consistency to produce above-standard MOCs so frequently just amazes me. Not your best, but still a very nice build. 5/5 |

Hey, that's MY color scheme you're using!
I love the silhouette, especially from the side. Detailing is excellent and well placed. Adding a SNOT "cheese wedge" to cover that big hole in the nose would improve the sleek look.
Great job Shannon, one of your best yet! |
