Barda
Barda!! From the popular series Deltora Quest! Known for his mastery of the blade and goofy smile, he is a trustworthy ally!
About this creation
Barda has finally made it to MOCpages!! After hard labour on getting the right shape of the cape, a little fiasco with the initial page and the painstaking gathering of parts, he's finally done and ready to hit the scene! My first order of buisness is to note the lighting. The camera wouldn't pick up light so it had to be super bright. Besides that I hope you can still enjoy the page! I'll start with Barda's backround story (I'll consider doing that for Lief and Jasmine too).

Barda is (or was) a palace gaurd at castle Del. He served to protect the king and was one of the highest ranking of them all. After the Shadow Lord razed the castle and destroyed most of the country, Barda escaped from the palace, wounded and near death. Untill he came across King Endon and Queen Sharn (in this case, Jarred and Anna) and was aided in his escape from the burning remains of his home. After a series of complex events that can be explained in the books, he ended up as a "beggar" near Lief's home. That was, untill Lief set out on his quest for the seven gems of Deltora. Barda reavealed that he secretly was a guard to Lief and had helped him out of sticky situations during his childhood. The two then set out on their adventure, and the rest is history. Since then, they have become good friends and, along with Jasmine, recover the seven gems. Barda often trades using his head for a good fight. That's not saying he isn't clever, he's solved plenty of tough puzzles and riddles and is usually the one with the right idea.

Barda has always been the assumed parent of both Lief and Jasmine, much to their dislike. He's quick to correct them and let them know when they shouldn't be talking. He's also notorious for driving them to move on, even when they lack proper rest. Though he isn't always strict, though it is the norm for him. Barda is usually a jolly old man outside of dangerous situations. In the anime he always has a grin that stretches from ear to ear and acts more like a father to Lief and Jasmine than just a traveling buddy.

Barda's clothes are his original guard uniform. I wanted to make it look as close to that as possible. Here's a pic showing off his "finely made" cloak. I took me almost a month to find the right shade of orange.

Action pose!! This shows how sturdy the cloak really is. It took several tries to get it just right. I used this castle fig head since it had the right beard, but found out that it had tan hair coloured on it instead of black. Instead of "yellowing it out", I had the idea to just see what it looked like without coloring it. Low and behold, there was only a small portion that stuck out that matched the small circlet that he wears on his brow. I'm not sure if you can see it in the shot, but I'll tell you, the resemblance is uncanny! That, along with the cape, made it one of my most accurate custom figs.

Here's a full shot of him. His clothes match perfectly. I think I got it right on the money this time! The only thing missing is his ponytail (yes he has one) but I think I found a piece on Bricklink that might rectify the issue. Either way, this minifig is really accurate, probably the most accurate of them all!

Anime Barda! Judging from how tall he is compared to Lief and Jasmine in the anime, he stands about 7'9"! Not only is he tall, but also wields a massive sword. He's also very strong, and can pick up Lief and Jasmine if they need to get out in a hurry.

Barda and Jasmine. They seem worried about something... Maybe Lief fainted again? (He faints in almost every book!)

Barda saying some encouraging words to Lief. He can be nice when he wants to, but that's not to often. Though when he's stern, it's not always to be jerk. Lief and Jasmine just need someone to set them straight (and occaisionaly someone to save them) and that's what Barda is for!

I was able to take a picture of the part where he smiles like that. It's quite common actually!

Thanks for looking! I'm working on a better Jasmine, it's just that dang hair! Luckily, the group is finally complete! That's a real milestone for Deltora on MOCpages!

(One last thing, I have had a lot of people that were making a big stink about the initial page. If you're gonna say something bad, or gonna be a jerk, just don't post at all! Unless it goes along the lines of positive critisizm, I'd rather you not post.)

Once again, thank you for you're patronage! I hope you show as much interest in this as you did with Lief and Jasmine!

i noticed that you hate using another persons idea. i do too. i like to give myself a challenge by creating my own things. i do give credit for the rare times when i do use someones idea but i always want to look for my own way.
