hello again! this is my newest ship, the Minotaur. i was inspired to do a ship in this color by an illustration i saw of the real Minotaur, which was painted red. i think it came out nicely.
this is by far my best creation. i strived to achieve the traditional lines and look of a man of war. i used a staggering technique to break up the straight lines Lego lends itself to in creations, which dont exist in ships. i think it worked pretty well, not perfect, but in this scale, curved hulls are hard to achieve, and fooling the eye into thinking the hull is curved works the best.
she is 4 center sections long, and 20 guns, with 4 carronades on her top deck. she has a full set of sails: main, top, gallants, and royals. the masts seems pretty accurate to the height they would be on a real ship.
overall, i am extremely happy with the way this one turned out.
Hi Stephen, The HM Frigate Minotaur is still one of my most favorite LEGO ship MOCs. I have set-up the Home web page for The Republic of Texas Navy in LEGOs, to checkout the "new" MOCpages, take a look. Also I have set you an invite to the new group "The Age of Sail" please join and add your ships! thanks kurt
Looks really cool... makes me want to build pirate ships ;)
The only suggestion I would have would be to try and use less studs on the upper deck. I think the rails in particular would have looked really slick using red tiles instead of red plates.
