Typical land vehicles in science fiction carry huge armaments, massive armor plating, and are either monolithic in size or tiny and mounted on hover pads. Now, this does look very much like science-fiction as we generally view it, but it is my belief that science-fiction needs to involve a fair amount of science. If nothing else, it at least needs some made up 'science' to explain away the more complicated things. Along with this, science-fiction should pay more attention to reality. For example, real armies descending onto a planet's surface will need to gather intelligence, and lots of it. This is usually hand waved by saying that the capital ships or drop ships or extra-dimensional rifts or whatever have sensors. Probably Everything sensors.

But think about it. They are INVADING A PLANET. Planets are HUGE. You will need a lot more then super-powerful sensors floating in orbit. What if you lose contact with these sensors? What if they orbit to the other side of the planet? What if they have to leave after you finish the main offensive? What is needed is a portable sensor package that can be deployed on the ground. The Triad solved this problem with the EWV-2 Marco.

Weighing in at around twenty-six tons, Marco carries some impressive armor ratings. It has too, for it has no weaponry.

Even in the concept stage, many experts pointed out this flaw. Despite their protests, weapons where left out anyway. The designers argued that the vehicle did not have room for weapons systems and the necessary electronics.

Without weapons, the vehicle is practically defenseless. Therefore it must be well guarded, usually with some kind of AA emplacement and a tank.

That large black air conditioner cools the computers. It needs to be able to keep them at optimum temperature even if the ambient air is 150°+.

This is the title shot, brought back for a second round. Not the massive air intake. It is rumored that this vehicle can attain 100 MPH+ on paved ground, but that has not been confirmed.

The driver's hatch. It's pretty cramped in there.

Here we have the two technicians who control the Listening devices, thermal imaging, spy drones, radar, gamma detectors, and stealth field.

One thing not mentioned by the developers was that this craft contains two powerful defenses that are not weapons: Thick armor and a stealth field. The stealth field mutes sound, cuts off thermal activity, and absorbs radar. Anything within a 143 yard radius of the vehicle is effectively hidden. Keep in mind this does not affect visible light, so they are hardly invisible.

Technology that allows complete invisibility is a military secret.

Although not demonstrated, the wheels contain some nice suspension, pretty much shamelessly copied from Magnus Lauglo.

And...we're done. One word of advice for future technicians: While using the sensors, please remember to press the enhance button. Don't try to tell us that The reading is off the scale, we already fixed that glitch. And please, PLEASE try Reversing the polarity when you can't detect something. Don't come whining to us.

That's cool creation. It looks bit like MCV (Mobile Construction Vehicle). It would be cool if it transforms into a base.

There are so many things to love about this baby. One would have to be the radar made of those grooved (rail?) pieces. Another is the opening back door and the detachable top. But what beats everything has to be the air conditioner. I know it has to be there, but it seems so... unrealistic to me. Oh well, there still is "fiction" in "science fiction!"

Wow, what a killjoy. I prefer my sci-fi as free of science as possible, thank you very much. What fun would it be if I couldn't scream "Yeah, right! Oh come on, you've got to be kidding me!" at the TV screen every once in a while? Thanks for introducing me to that Tropes site, pretty hilarious.
