Machine Gun
A working machine gun/assault rifle powered by three electric motors
About this creation
This fully automatic machine gun/assault rifle has a range of about 7 metres when fully charged.

FEATURES:

  • Variable size magazines

  • Fully-Automatic

  • Range of 7 metres

  • Twin accelerators

The machine gun fires the toothed racks from steering mechanisms. It uses two motors to accelerate the bullets, and one to feed/load them into the first motor from the magazine (like th hammer striking the charge in a real mg). Each motor has a seperate battery pack, the one for the loader used as the trigger. This is to ensure that the second accelerator is not slowed down by excessive current consumption from the first accelerator when it 'grabs' (or bites. *ho ho ho*)the bullet.

The magazine (top loading with gravity feed) clips onto the gun and is released by simply pulling it off. A lever is used to cock the gun when the mag is in place. The mags have a spring loaded guard which stops bullets from falling out. Each mag contains 8 bullets, but can be joined together in combination for up to 32 rounds of madness.

There are attachments for a tripod, flashlight and spare mag.

Thanks, I'll look into that, the mechanism was originally rubber band powered and that gave more power but it kept jamming, etc so i gave up on it, might go back to it, though.

Hi Sandro - I think you'll waste too much power in the gearing if you're using just the motor to hit the blocks directly. This MG and MGII both used the motor driven bolt, but only to push the blocks into the accelerating gears. Perhaps try a spring-loaded bolt and use the motor to pull it back (have a look at electric BB gun mechanisms?). Good luck :)
Quoting Sandro Tkesh cool, I'm working on one that turns the rotational energy from a motor to drive a bolt back and forth.using an existing bolt action rifle as a base(brickspitter)I have a fully functioning yet VERY weak "assault rifle" I'm currently working on different combos of gears to get the right mix of speed and torque.

Wow! Why didn't I think of that? All the guns I've made have been sort of semi-automatic, but I use elastic-power. This is brilliant. I can't get over how brilliant -and yet how simple- it is. I must try one!

A lego machine gun. Brilliant. It's better than any other design i've seen before, all the others are huge boxes on tables. I would like to kno if you'd like to sign up for Lego Gun Registration, it's free and this would be an amazing gun to be on the database.
