FS2-Dragon
The Dragon, a Fighter/bomber/attack ship, much like our current fighter planes.
About this creation
The Concept

I loved my Alligator (even though it looks horrible compared to this). I liked the concept of a ship that looked like an animal. So, this was my next step.
The Build

The Head
Remembering Zoids (a future project of mine), I wanted to put the pilot in the head. Sadly, I only have one descent wind screen for this thing. As such, I have become accustomed to the same cockpit every time (with a few minor tweaks depending on the MOC). But, it is big and bulky, so it needed to change. So, I spent a day and 1/2 perfecting the thing, and I am extremely happy with it.

The Bomb Bay

My Alligator was the 1st bomb bay I have ever made... ever. It was small, but I was pleased. This needed some big ones, so I went with some F-22 style ones. Seriously, I went through about 4-5 designs before I was really happy.

The Wings

You can not give a dragon airplane-style wings. He needs dragon wings. The idea of how to do it came magically in a vision... on the can. So... ummm. But I am happy with it. They are rigid, strong, pose-able, and can be put on other things, with tweaks.

Oh, I have had some questions about the wings. No, I do not want to put fabric or something on it. They would just get in the way, and look hideous when folded up. Besides, this thing is in space. It does not really need wings for lift (which is what the paper would be for). The wings are more for weight displacement and balance. It needs NO paper for that. So...

So, after being bored with my pointless talking, lets move on to the actual MOC.

Notice the 2 lazer cannons in the nose, and the antenna on the side. This thing is all about info (like modern fighters).

A side shot.

A close up of the side. I wanted it to look sleek, but not be stud less. I personally like studs.

The back. Notice on the top fin, there are thermal flairs to protect against heat-seeking missiles. Also, the engines have adjustable thrust vectors.

The thrust vectors are open in this shot.

The side doors open. Notice my Sig-Fig's katanas hanging there. I wanted to put them in the cockpit, but there was not enough room.

This is the belly. I had to take off the wing to get the next few shots.

The bottom doors open. This is about the 5th revision I did before I was happy with it.

The side doors open.

Everything.

The front landing gear closed, but with the cover off. This was one of the few things that just kinda worked for me, you know what I mean?

All folded down. This is my first attempt at landing gear, and I like it.

To show off the rear landing gear.

It's not as strong as I wanted it to be, but I did not have some pieces in the right color to do it right.

Showing off those long ranged missiles.

The middle can hold 6 bombs/mines. The pilot is able to chose which one. It also holds 2 large bombs.

If you are not planing on dogfighting, you can hold 4 medium sized bomb/mines.

Also, a more fighter friendly payload, you can carry a personal satellite (more on that later).

Underneath, fully loaded.

One HUGE bomb can go outside on the bottom, connected my a detachable hard point. Once dropped, the hard point is also dropped to smooth out the air flow.

They can also go under each wing.

2 of my BUF can fit under the tail. No explosives can be put there, in case the engines over heat and set it off.

2 more can fit on the spines on the back.

From the rear, all loaded up.

A close up of those BUF. I really like them.

Again, under the wing.

The Dragon, with all of it's optional payload. Not all of that fits in there at once, but... I forgot to mention earlier, those cylinders on the wings are 16 short ranged dog-fighting missiles.

The personal satellite. It can give you info about the area for miles around. Great when you do not know where things are in a fight.

The satellite unfolded.

The Dragon all folded up for storage.

Cockpit with pilot.

With out pilot and windshield.

Everything open. Notice the controls.

So, that's about it. I hope you enjoyed it. Please leave a review, and tell me what you think. Thanks, and happy MOCing!

I like the shape and the idea. I do suggest a more detailed underbelly, but if you're satisfied with it, that's all that matters! C ya~ElNickre

Neat concept, if extremely unconventional. I must advise some fabric on the wings, maybe paper for an easy alternative??? Nice job! -- -- Michael

I like how you made the head, making it look dragonish but still like a cockpit. I agree with the guy below me, the wings don't look like they could make a ship fly, although in space who knows. I tried something like that for the balrog but it just looked to thin, i wanted something more solid.

Very original, but I must ask, how does it fly with those wings?

Very good job, it's close to the animal "design", but it looks realistic as a space ship.I love this sort of MOC ! The teeth and the wings are really good, and the details. PS - answer to your review : thanks for the advice on the SNOT, I'm a beginner for that and you are right to tell me to improve it. For the color scheme, you may be right, but I think I will go on with that color scheme anyway (I know it's strange but... love it -bad taste rules- lol :-)

I like this. It really stood out on the home pages. Nice work. Now if you don't mind, for your next project, I'd like to see a platypus... Later ~ Chris.

Looks like a really good start. I like the concept of it being a fighter/bomber. I really can't wait to see the finished product.
