A trike-like ChainRider build for speed
About this creation
ChainRider XL is just like ChainRider, but build for speed only, so no frills, and uses the XL motors rather than the medium ones of ChainRider.
Initially i thought that the medium ones would be faster, as they have a higher rpm and less weight, but guess what: i geared up the XL motors by a factor 3, giving a higher max speed. It even outperformed my DraXTers on the 5 meter track, as i manually clocked it at under 2.7 seconds, whereas the DraXTers barely managed to get under 3 seconds.

The trick in the construction is a very dense, rigid and strong T from the battery box and the 2 XL motors, see below. There are some weaknesses as well: upon spinning fast enough it will loose a wheel! On the other hand, it is relatively easy to do wheelies that last for meters! This is because the yellow back bar just scrapes over the floor, letting it travel almost upright. If the speed change upon reverting gets too high it flips like the ChainRider.

I uploaded instructions on photobucket, this time i could upload all 115 pictures in one go, so less hassle in the ordering!
Just go to the slideshow , and click reverse, to reverse the order of the show. Just toggle pause/play to build along the slides....good luck!

@Guffy 10:
Thanks for your message!
Well, then you have answered your own previous question :)
So you did it with the NXT rather than Power Functions, sounds great to me!
Can you show it with eg a photo?
How does it compare to my NXTDraxters over 5 meters?
Happy riding! |
