Lathilin is a machine created by a divine council of beings called Elohim (taken from Jehovah's Witness theology. I'm not a member but their theology is pretty cool.) to do their bidding and act as a mechanical angel, or Malak. Elyon, the leader, who gave Nimbus access to the sea (see Nimbus: Demi-Toa of the Sea (v2)), commissioned the project. The result, Lathilin, proved to be an efficient messenger but also a powerful soldier, outperforming the grunts with his powers of Might, channeled through his mace, which coats him in a red, energy enhancing glow.
He, however, became to used to his power, spoiled from his rank, and began to abuse his powers with the other Malak and even the Elohim themselves. They became so frustrated with his attitude that, millenia before Mukraatan invaded Kueva-Nui, handed Lathilin over to his forces in punishment for his deeds, which consisted of manipulation, deception, extortion, assault, and advocating a disrespect for all life. Mukraatan handed the machine over to Sidi-Koro (Now Makuta Venorax), who induced a sleeping sickness on him (yes, even machines fall victim to her plagues). It was around this time he was locked up in Mukraatan's former homeland, said to be a remote floating island that broke off from Voya Nui 6 millenia ago (this is merely a rumor, as Mukraatan is a secret son of Makuta), when Mukraatan invaded Kueva-Nui. After his forces captured the Balsik who would come to be known as Minokshii (see Bionicle Epic 2006: Minokshii's Secret), and his massive robot soldier (Majokshii), the Balsik revealed a way to harness Lathilin's energy to their advantage. So Minokshii was allowed to keep Majokshii for protection, hooking up Lathilin to a power-harnessing machine of his design.
Lathilin's great power stores were slowly drained over the course of time, until, at Mukraatan's death, he finally broke loose as a spirit from his body (it shattered), stowing away in Komorro's body. He transferred his power to Komorro, which made himself look docile. However, after Komorro completely resembled Lathilin, he expelled Komorro's soul and regrew his Mask of Life.
Now, Lathilin still has barely a fraction of the power he once had, which makes him too dificult for matoran, but easy pickings for Toa. His bark is often louder than his bite, and the toa often cast lots to see who gets to fight him because he's such a pushover. His power, however, is regenerating very slowly from the sunlight, but it is estimated to be several millenia before he reaches full power again.

Quotes:
"All sinners fall before my holy power!"
"The Elohim revere their dillusions of tolerance. I prefer the violent hammer of righteousness!"
(In response to Tohuka calling him a pushover) "Unholy Filth! I shall condemn you for eternity!"
"I am a machine of divinity!"

Main pose. His weapons include his mace, a small sword he picked up, his massive claws, and a minigun.
