Cyborg Racer: Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Welcome to where time stands still. No one leaves and no one will. Moon is full, never seems to change. Just labeled mentally deranged.”
About this creation

The Story: Lars Hetfield was not what most would call a socially balanced person. He spent most of his early years in and out of institutions and was well known to authorities.
At the age of 23, Hetfield was taken into custody and charged with heinous crimes against 7 men, 9 women… and a goat. (don’t ask what he did to the goat…) He was found mentally unstable and unfit to stand trial. Hetfield was remanded to the "Sunshines and Daydreams" Mental Hospital in LIU controlled space. He was later purchased from the LIU (They’ll sell anything for a profit) by the “Phipsonian Racing Conglomerate”. Faced with the choice between death and being transformed into a racer, he chose the latter, on one condition.

Lars was able to design the Racer himself. Knowing full well that the other racers would find it disturbing that he was a former mental patient, he pushed the envelope in his racer design. He placed halberds on his wings for spiking other racers and fitted the front with a TK series, model 421 “Ripper” power saw. He fitted the cockpit with white padding so he could feel at home, placed a cage over the front instead of a cockpit screen and added chains to intensify the demented image he wanted to portray. Hetfield also added his own special touch, a narcotic delivery system that would inject a blend of morphine and adrenaline. The idea was to keep him “doped” while at the same time pumping him up, fueling his rage. (Fourth wall commentary – Hey Lee, would that actually work? I know the adrenaline would affect the heart (him not having a body and all) but in theory…?)

The engines were designed as an homage to the LIU who treated him “so well” while he was in their care. (They actually treated him horribly but in his mental state he enjoyed the daily shock treatments, Chinese water torture and being used as target practice for less than lethal weapons testing.)

Hetfield uses his appearance to instill terror in other racers. Here we see him about to take a chunk out of Racer “Radar Love” in the early goings of the Indianapolis 5,000,000 (Just for you Kelso).

Forth wall commentary – After I posted “Radar Love”, I started thinking about what other songs I could turn into racers. I came up with this basic idea before I had a song in mind. Some other songs that were in contention were “Crazy Train” by Ozzy and “Can I Play With Madness” By Iron Maiden. I finally settled on “Welcome Home” By Metallica. The Racer theme is perfect for posting something small while working on something BIGGER… (Wait and see). Thanks to Shanno for starting this whole crazy thing! Till next time race fans ~ Chris.

The combination is called a “speedball” and it didn’t work so well for John Belushi or Chris Farley. Nice job on the creation, and I will email you a better response. Lee.

I like how you used the grill tiles for the cage effect. Good backstory, and the minifig head you chose is perfect for this.

Wow, how has no one caught this yet? Nice Metallica references. Not in love with the MOC itself, just because it doesn't appeal to me. It's stil good, I just don't like it.

"After such noteworthy events as a particular practice where he burst into flames, the success of his popular "Black" race, and the legal entaglements while fighting for the rights of mentally unstable cyborg racers everywhere, Lars' popularity eventually declined. The last we heard, he was involved with a Hollywood scandal involving Kassandra Book and a chicken."
