A Space MOC which blends effectively the properties of fighter and bomber spacecraft. I have both CAD renderings and an actual physical model of the spaceship.

Notes on the KS-66 "Sayonara" space fighter-Bomber:
The KS-66 was originally created as a glorified Y- wing with parts from the 7150 TIE fighter and Y-Wing set. It had S-foils, 2 engines (to the current 4), a rear turret, and a tactical (but not strategic) missile bay. It was probably what one would now call a "heavy fighter".
Later, I realized a need for a strategic bomber in my fleet. The KS-66 was the largest ship with a decent undercarriage at the time, so I added a strategic missile bay running the length of the fuselage, covered with a forward-opening door with pin hinges aft.
After adding pneumatics to the 8448, I was left with two perfectly good air damped shock absorbers that I decided to put to good use. They found their way into the KS-66 (now called the "Sayonara", because it is what one deploys upon things to which you would like to say "goodbye") in the form of extensible forward wings. The thrusters on the wings improve maneuverability, and the leading edge filaments are used to cut through things in close combat, ( i.e. against a Mech, presumably armed with a sword.) I know, it's not much comfort knowing all you've got is a couple of extensible swords against a mech, but it's better than nothing. These forward wings fold back for storage because the ship would not fit on my shelf with the wings in extended position.
My apologies to the lego CAD community for the sloppy job I did making the gatling guns betwixt the rear top engine struts. The program I use makes it difficult to see the rear of the ship head-on, so I kind of had to guess on where to put the chambers. This is my first CAD project, so bear with me. I did not unfold the S-foils
because it would have been way too difficult to get all the angles right.
Only recently have I cleaned up the color scheme (currently black to white and trimmed in blue). Right now it looks very Star Wars-esque, but if you eliminate some of the darks it could be a PCS fighter. Swap out the blues, and you could have an eastern blok fighter. It would probably be pretty easy to change the color scheme on the LDR file, but what you see here reflects the color scheme I have on the real thing right now.
The cockpit (closed), and pilot. Note the maneuvering jets and laser cannons on either side of the cockpit. The cockpit is quite small. I would have extended it downward, but I already put some highly explosive projectiles where the pilot's rear would go.
The interior of the cockpit. It has a big navigation monitor, a smaller tactics monitor, a keyboard mounted on some pneumatic tubing (sorry about the glare), and a joystick (partially obscured by the keyboard).
The gunner's station. The camera on top of the gun cluster feeds into a monitor (white sloped brick just above and in front of the gunner's head). There is also a window behind the gunner so he can see what's behind him.
All extended, tilted slightly forward, viewed from the side. This would be a good time to point out the blue "combo" turrets under the lower wings. They're decent for defensive purposes, but more often used for their maneuvering jets.
Underside. All the wings are folded in, all the weapons bays are closed. The transparent green engine cover domes are just about the only nuances to the otherwise flawless black, white, gray with blue trim exterior. This is my first *really* successful color scheme.
The Sayonara, from top/port/bow. This is more or less what the tangible one looks like. The only differences are: 1:The real one has different colored engine domes (I only had 2 white ones). 2:one part on the gatling guns is different (because LDRAW didn't have it in its libraries). There is one #6536 that needs to be replaced with a #42003 in each pod. If you have an Ldraw part for #42003, let me know. 3: The gatling gun assemblies kinda suck in the CAD version. they're kinda sloppy in the CAD model because of the missing part and because I can't look at that part of the ship head-on.
Annotated with all the cool systems. :) The Sayonara sports 3 sets of maneuvering thrusters, 4 main engines, 2 light laser cannon turrets, 2 fixed medium laser cannons, 2 fixed short-range gatling guns (single barrel, six chamber), 1 rear turret which includes a pair of medium laser cannons and a pair of cryolasers (like medium lasers except they're kept nice and cold. longer range, longer pulse time, higher power, etc.), 2 extensible close combat foils, a small bay that holds 2 small tactical missiles, and a larger bay that holds up to 6 full hex-cone strategic missiles (a 6-pack of whoop-@#*. I can't say that on the 'net or they'll kick me off)
