Yeah, like I could really let “Phipbot” go unanswered… But more of a tribute to the AFOL who started this whole crazy thing.
About this creation
(These are the lyrics to The song. The song's got NOTHING to do with Shannon except the name. See forth wall commentary below)
The Ocean By U2
A picture in grey
Dorian Grey
Just me by the Sea
And I felt like a star
I felt the world could go far
If they listened to what I said
The sea
Washes my feet
Washes my feet
Splashes the soles of my shoes

The Story: Shannon Ocean was a Glass Blower in the early part of the 21st century. After putting up with years of “You blow WHAT for a living?” jokes, he finally decided to make a career change. With future events already set in motion, he went to work for Halomocs.com

Over the years, Shannon worked his way up the corporate ladder and eventually was one of the most powerful and influential voices for the now mega corporation. Shannon Ocean died at the age of 114 after a “session” with his 22 year old wife and her 3 friends. The holonet called it the most devastating loss to the global community since Kennedy. His head was cryogenically frozen and placed in stasis at the Halomocs Memorial Center in Washington D.C.

Two hundred years later, Oceans visions of a future with Cyborg Racing had come true. His head was reanimated and he was asked if he would like to take part in the sport that he had envisioned centuries ago. Shannon designed his racer to resemble the oceans on earth (before the LIU drained them). Now racing under the Halomocs.com banner, Ocean has won nearly every race he has been entered in (mainly because the races are fixed and the only corporation that can over bid Halomocs.com is the LIU).
Fourth Wall Commentary: A couple of weeks ago, I’m looking up “The Picture of Dorian Grey” on the internet and I see there was a song written about it by “U2”. My interest is peaked so I check it out. The name of the song is “The Ocean”! The song is VERY short (about a minute and a half) but the idea just stuck in my head. O.K. file that little piece of useless info in my black hole of a brain and save it for later…
Flash forward to yesterday and I’m flippin’ through mocpages. I come across this mech that looks like a police mech. I check the builder… Shannon Ocean. I check it out and sure enough Shano’s ribbing me… wait, that came out wrong. Anyway, I thought it was HILARIOUS! I didn't take ANY offense to it as some might think, and then it hit me (ouch). I went home and whipped together this piece of c**p. The idea was to make a racer with an oceany (yes, I'm making up my own words now) wave thing on the back... didn't quite come out how I envisioned it (everyone chimes in with "Ohhh, so that's what that was supposed to be.") The story came pretty easy (insert own jokes here) and the rest is history.
Disclaimer: For the six of you who don’t get it, Shannon is a good friend and this is NOT meant to be defamatory in ANY way! Ocean’s got a hide as thick as a rhino and I’m sure he’ll see the humor in this so there’s no reason to “defend his honor”. As a matter of fact, I’m going to take this opportunity to thank Shannon for starting the “Cyborg Racer” theme. It gives people like me with NO building ability the opportunity to turn out some really bad stuff. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Well Shannon, consider yourself imitated! Till next time race fans ~ Chris.
A couple of additions:
Makuta Bane - You're absolutely RIGHT! This is by FAR not even my low end best.

Man Phipson, this is really cool, naming cyborg racers after other cyborg racers is one thing, but naming after the maker, that's genius! But good grief man, where did you get all of those wonderful trans-blue pieces? I only have like three, which is why my water usally sucks.Anyway good job Chris~LL BTW- I added you to my homepage :-)

Yep this has nothing to do with Ocean the guy. I really like that wave design only that it needs a shark coming out of the middle so it looks like it's chasing Ocean's head! |

Sweet. I don't think even I have that many trans-blue pieces.... Lego store, here I come! Anyway, that head really reminds me of Mr. Ocean, I don't know why since I've never seen him before. great build and story Mr. Phipson. |

I am sorry, but I can not give you a 5 for this. The colors are good, I like the sleek, studless ness, and the white rimmed on the wave, but the rest it BAD. Sorry, but that is how I see it. |

I almost forgot to look at the creation I was laughing so hard at your commentary. But when I scrolled back up and gave it a look, I laughed even harder...no just kidding, its great. The wave effect is sweet. This friendly rivalry between you and Ocean is causing some great mocs to be pumped out. |

In my opinion, this isn't a great racer, maybe your worst. Here's a MOC that I think was better... [ http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/56639]...so much detail on that, and the color is scheme is perfect! |

What the @*!#? How dare you impune his honor! You sir, should be shackled and flogged for...no wait, you'd like that. Where was I?... Why, I've never encountered such a heinous and malicious act of thoughtless depravity in all my years of building, and another thing... |

The design of your racer sort of grows on me, it's kind of cool actually (to me, it possibly resembles a surf-board.) I'm glad that this sort of fun is happening on MOCpages, the community here is really great! |
