"You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum: Shadow and Flame!" - Sauramon
The Balrogs were originally Maiar, of the same order as Sauron, Saruman and Gandalf, but they were seduced by Melkor, who corrupted them to his service in the days of his splendour before the making of Arda.
The books descriptions of the Balrog differ and are ambiguous (they could mean many things, for those of you without vocabulary). I wen't mostly following the movies depiction of the Balrog because it was flipping sweet.
Thanks to Makuta Bane for the idea of using exoforce joints. If not for that I probably never would have bothered to do a second version of the Balrog.
A quick shot of the new tail i put on, i disliked the old one but didn't get the pieces for the new one until after i took the pictures, but didn't think it was worth it to go retake all of them just for the tail.
Closeup on the head
Showing of his beastliness
I decently like how the wings turned out, i was thinking about using bat wings from batman but they were quite tiny compared to him, just remember how huge his wings were in the movie.
MUCH better! Thanks for the credit. Yah, I have some summer projects going on, but I plan on doing a Balrog soon (after the fell beast). It looks much better. The colors are better, and I like how you did the fire. If you try for a 3rd, you might look at my Dragon for a new (and my OPINION, better) wing design. Much better, though, and it is the best on MOCpages.
