The gunship of choice for the Republic's ARC troopers.
About this creation
The mercenary Rhen Drax has traveled the galaxy, slowly building a name for himself as a bounty hunter. But the hunt is not his only passion. A former employer of the Techno Union, he has extensive knowledge of "modern technology" and has a talent for starship design. In addition to the frequent aid he gives the Republic, Drax has also begun to build a ship-building company from scratch. It is known as Angelon Shipyards. His first starship designs went almost entirely unnoticed by the public. Even so, his first major client was the Republic, a triumph that occurred when a mysterious Jedi named Syfo-Dyas approached him many years before the start of the Clone Wars and asked him to create a vessel to be used by soldiers of the Republic. Drax of course knew that the Republic had no standing army, but was sworn to secrecy and designed the ship anyway. Drax rose to the challengs magnificently and designed this, the Corsair-class gunship.
Republic gunships, while extremely powerful, did not fit every mission profile. Nor did the conventional Clone trooper. That is why the ARC troopers were established; to be the Republic's elite soldiers. Along with such a specialized division comes also new weapons of war. The Corsair was one such weapon. The traditional gunship provided space for carrying troops, but was intended for only short distances and was not well protected. The Corsair's troop hold contains seats and is heavily armored and inclosed to prevent fair damsels (cough..Padme...cough) from tumbling out of the ship and onto the sand below. Its weapons systems have been heavily modified as well. Instead of "regular" low-yield warheads, the Corsair carries a two magazines of four concussion missiles each. On it's re-designed wings are two rotating pulse cannons, and underneath the cockpit are four blaster cannons. Its armaments, while devastating, are not its only advantages. The vessel also has a sensor jammer to help it travel deep into enemy territory unnoticed by enemy sensors. This allows the ARC troopers to arrive at their destination undetected.
In addition to being sold to the Republic, Angelon shipyards has also sold a number of these vessels to independent smugglers and various private military corporations for use in patrolling their respective bases-of-operations. Judging by the success of the Corsair, it can be expected that the galaxy will soon see more of Angelon Shipyards.
This looks great! From what I can see, this has great shape and weaponry. It looks mean and intimidating to the max. Do you have any more pictures though? I really want to see closer views of this thing.
This Republic Corsair is amazing. Your idea of taking the basic gunship and turning into this is extraordinary. If the Republic had more fascinating and powerful ships like this in their arsenal, they would have already decimated the CIS alot sooner than most expected. Keep up the good work and I believe George Lucas should take your model into consideration for something official in the Star Wars Universe.
Oh my flying cow, thats one heck of a ship. i want one too. (how about you sending me the ship and i send you a couple of bucks)
Well im really amazed by the rest of your stuff too and im pretty sure that you are the most gifted SW builder ive ever seen.
Thank you for sharing your great work with the world.
