Entirely original Star Wars ship
Rebel starfighter from my imagination
About this creation
Just to clarify, this was built for the Star Wars universe, but it’s not based on anything. It came out of my imagination. If you happen to be one of those people who doesn't like Star Wars MOCs, then please just try to appreciate this build for what it is. Anyways, this ship can hold one pilot, one astromech droid, and some cargo. I built it because I wanted to put this canopy on a spaceship vertically. I don’t know if this is a bad thing, but I decided to try something new and take the pictures with the flash on. Also, my posterboard isn’t big enough, so you can see behind it in the main photo (and probably some other ones if you look hard enough). Sorry about that!

From left to right: the pilot, the mechanic who would come with this ship if it were a set, and the droid.

The cockpit.

This time without the pilot so you can see the storage space behind him.

Front view.

Side view.

More storage space.

Rear view.

The two smaller thrusters can allow the ship to hover by pointing downwards, effectively turning the ship into a giant turret.

The large ventral cannon is for quickly clearing out ground targets. It works really well against capital ships, too.

I’d like to thank Shannon Ocean for pointing me to a post on the Classic Space forums when he reviewed the Onachus which led me to a website that teaches you how to make a light box. This MOC was photographed when it was in one that I made with help from that site, so I couldn’t get the camera above it for a top-view picture. I had to lean it on its side to get this shot, which is why I had to take one of the wings off. By the way, I know taking pictures with the flash on is probably a bad idea when using a light box, but it wasn’t really working without it.

This ship is the undisputed favorite among astromech droids, because they get their own protective canopy to prevent their unfortunate tendency to get their heads shot off during intense battles. To make it even better, they’re in control of the turret in front of them.

Here it is open.

The stands are kind of wobbly, but they work. When I build a spaceship, I usually like to include landing gear (or at least make the bottom flat so it can land), thus eliminating the need for stands like these, but obviously that wouldn’t work here because of the ventral cannon. I’m just going to pretend that these ships are launched from special racks in the hangars of Rebel cruisers.

One of the most original designs I've seen. It's well-built and you have paid great attention to details such as storage compartments, the cockpit and the droid-housing. The overall impression is... impressive!

That link went to the Skunk Works… OH. I wondered why ShannY never commented on anything I have, even though I will say I have original work too! PS: What HTML magic allows a link to open in a new window?

Another one for the favourites folder. Seriosly cool man-even Youngy thinks so! I love how the astromech gets his own canopy and turret. Total win in my book.

Excellent ship! Your design is really cool, I think it would have been great if these ships where in a star wars movie!

Hey, I'm the one who has to deal with it! It's not like I don't hear that a lot. Besides, I even put a note on my home page that says to ignore it.

Nice windscreen usage! Anyway, like Hawkeye, I have visited Young's moc and have managed to prove (I'm pretty sure) your list of contradicting verses wrong. You said you could go on with more contradictions, and I would love to hear them! Seeya over there hopefully.

Posted a few comments on Young's latest MOC, the one about "Religion"...be happy to hear that I'm inviting you to discuss it in more detail, and this time you're not dealing with a partially informed 10 year old. Hope to see ya there!

It's a very original ship! One thing I might add though, looking at the cockpit and front of the vessle I thinking it might make a good cargo vessle as well as a gunship. By using the extra space below the rear for hauling large cargo boxes it just might work!

Thanks for commenting, everyone! dylan greenwood: The Star Wars "expanded universe" is full of weird ships and things that never appeared in the movies, so I kept saying that I made it up in order to make sure everybody understands that I'm not building some obscure ship that someone else already came up with. Shannon Young: Okay, I understand where you're coming from. I'm glad you like it! Doesn't anyone want to give me photography advice, or should I just scrap the light box idea and try to get some kind of image-enhancing software like Photoshop?

Very nice work there. i like the ventral gun but i think that big space in the rear, infront of the engines can be used to hold stuff. Good work! BTW try to use wine glasses stolen from the cupbord. Works like a wonder. plus it lets you use the pieces on the stand for somthing else.

Hey, well done on the ship, but it has more of an EXO-force look to me, mostly because of the turret below. For something Starwars it is to big. But again, well done on the ship!

"Entirely original Star Wars ship" -- isn't that an oxymoron? It doesn't have to be. My problem with Lego Star Wars is the same problem I have with Lego Halo: how many "custom clone troopers" do I need to see? How many X-wings or Republic Gunships? I don't care what universe this is from. It's something NEW that came from YOUR OWN IMAGINATION. I wish more people would go down that road. Now when I get down off my soapbox and actually look at the ship, it rocks.

A long list of good ideas here ! I especially love the cockpit (inside and outside), the windscreen for the droid, the gun, the main engine... in fact, all components are good ! And the overall design works fine. Great work !
