Military Fighter Jet No.2 (WIP - completed as "F-90")
Here are some pictures of my most recent WIP, showing the basic stucture of my second attempt of building a fighter jet. I am thankful for any constructive criticism, by both ratings and comments.
About this creation
Check it out... Since this is just a basic, primary structure, lots of details will be added: working wing flaps at the end of the delta wings(with the technique such as it has been applied at my "C-2" cargo aircraft) , prolonged engines/tail-fins, working canards, a better working version of the front landing gear (which isnīt functional if it isnīt completely vertical...), eventually bigger intakes, a slightly lower cockpit, etc. ...

In case Iīd go for thrust-verctoring engines, Iīd use this part as a top-mounted additional, openable VTOL-jet-intake such as it can be seen on the Lockheed Martin F-35B:

Two different kinds of canards - Iīm not sure yet for which ones Iīm gonna go...

A new missile design for heat- and laser-guided missiles: note the little train wheel piece... Itīs very practical and, due to its smaller size, looks a lot better than the little "satellite antenna piece" which is similar to this present solution:

I'm going through your collection in order, so I am ignorant of where you took this. But the overall structure looks pretty good, and your list of features sounds exciting. I guess I'll move on and see what happened.

Hey! I didn't mean to criticize your work, but you were right that I'm being too picky about aerodynamics. After all, the Russians always were and always will be like that, won't they? Great "work in progress". I've finished some amazing airplanes that will be uploaded anytime from next month to 6 months from now.

Hy Steffen! This will look great, as I can expect. the black wings made of some heavy SNOT give a very professional look too it, and the huge engines rules! :). I really like the use of canards but I donīt think the Vtol engine would work...It just donīt fit well in my opinion. Is a nice idea too put the work in progress cause then people can help you on the final desing. Bruno

Hi Steffen....about your question.....I have too say I enjoy building mostly military aircraft , although recently i have been thinking about building a cargo plane called the 'ALENIA G222" but then again even though it doesn’t have any guns it is still a military aircraft.....also yes Lockheed "Super Constellation" is a very nice aircraft...I actually had the privilege too see one in person it was really cool....anyway about building it out of legos...I wouldn’t mind taking your challenge, but the only thing is I don’t know if I have enough pieces too build it in minifigure scale...although I will try. I am currently working on an A-6 Intruder so I would like to finish that before I start a knew project-------David

@David & Adam: If a bubble canopy would be like two of those combined, Iīd have to say no for the time being - I just own one of those canopies right now... But I was planning on making a really nice, very gradually decreasing back of the fuselage (half-stud set-offs, steps of "a third of a brick etc.). Also I though of trying to lower the cockpit slightly. Concerning the nose, I will substitute the really bulky part (from a side view, you can see the 90 degree edge!) and make it sleeker as well. The front part of the nose cone isnīt too bulky, I think - itīs more the part closer to the landing gear. The landing gear itself should be functional (steering), which in the current angle isnīt possible. I agree it looks cool like that, but something must be changed there as well...

LOTS to say, Steffen. Engines, weapons, intakes, landing gear, nose cone = awesome. My only issue is how the nose meets the wings. its too wide immediately after the cockpit, which makes it look a little awkward from the top view. maybe making the leading edges to the wings flat would help it out. the delta wings are impressive. just improve the leading edges and it'll probably end up to become one od my favorite creations =)

A good start... That's all I can say, I don't think you really need advices, because you're a very good builder.

I think the nose could use some smoothing out, and maybe seperate the vertical stabalisers by a few studs. Also, unless you plan to do something with it, get rid of that technic piece in the wings.

WOW Steffen this is an extremely good fighter, first off the wings are awesome the armement is great and the landing gear and the engines are spectacular.....the color scheme is also very nice.......although i personally think the nose is way too bulky and i think like jeffery pointed out you should fix the leading eges of the wings other then that its awesome.....cant wait too see it finished--------David

Yeah Iīve been thinking that, too - itīs from on top that it looks a little weird. Also, it deteriorates the pilotīs view...Iīm gonna work on it:) I was also thinking of eventually prolonging the nose cone a bit, so that the edges could stay like they are - but I donīt know yet. At any case, the nose will be made sleeker! Steffen
