Star Trek Next Generation USS Enterprise NCC 1701 D
About this creation
The Enterprise D is my favorite ship from all the series. Although there are some obvious design implications, such as the oversize saucer section and relatively small neck piece, it is a beautiful ship in design and this LEGOŽ rendition gives it justice (i believe, anyway). It took on the better side of 3 months to complete this ship, as I did not devote hours a day to the project, and do have other more important things to do. None the less, it is now done.
Side shot, showing a hint of the base holding the whole thing up. While it does not appear so in the show, the design is very fragile in a gravity situation and it does need supports under the saucer section to avoid falling over.
Top, the overall shape I am very pleased with because it captures the shape of the original ship well.
Aft 3/4 view, right before the ship goes to warp in the intro (except mine is the other way around).
The tricky deflector dish -- very hard to get the correct shape.
Saucer separation capability is included, but it has to be manually pulled apart with some force. I hope to make a version where it is strong yet comes off easily still.
After saucer re-integration the ship can go on to normal duties.
Please visit my Brickshelf gallery of this ship for more photos of the various parts here . More deatail of the nacelles and other features are on my Brickshelf page.
This is possibly the best Enterprsie-D Ever made of lego Bricks! I see that you have a few of the same problems that I had when building. My saucer section kept hitting the ground. I think that if you add a lego Boat Weight or two, in the Stardrive section, you may be able to fix that. PLease chck out my USS Enterprise-D!
Very Nice. I would like to use a rendering of this graphic on a t-shirt for a FIRST LEGO League team. I want to give credit where due. Michael, can I have your permission to use the graphic? email@example.com
