Modifications on Standard #6205 LEGO Star Wars V-Wing set
Finally, my parents decided it would be better to give me my birthday present (a Canon IXUS 85s digital camera) here instead of having me buy it in Hong Kong (where I will be by 7:30 of the day after tomorrow!). Thus, I am posting the first MOC-o’-mine in which you can actually appreciate something other than a blurry “thing” in the photographs uploaded to celebrate it! Hope you enjoy. Now, to the MOC. I decided to do one last LEGO star wars purchase before the new late 2008 star wars sets come out, and before I went to China for around a month. And I thought the V-Wing looked cool and wouldn’t need any bettering… sadly, I was quite disappointed: the cockpit wasn’t really sealed-off (those of you who have the set will surely know what I’m talking about), which I found quite annoying, LEGO seemed to have ran out of pieces on certain parts, and I also made some slight modifications on the undercarriage and landing gear, wings and added other minor details (mainly for aesthetic reasons, so it probably isn’t very made in a star wars “puritanical” way).
About this creation
01. A side view. The right side. Here you can see the modifications on the undercarriage (the one by LEGO I considered to be a bit poor), made in such a way that the ship can stand on the floor in static position on a more coherent, mechanical-looking (I used LEGO Technic pieces, as you will see further on) structure than the one LEGO did.

02. A side view. The left side. You can see LEGO structure comes out easily if you don’t treat it with some delicacy, and for this pic I had to secure the landing gear.

03. Another type of side view. I didn’t modify the cannons (actually the pieces didn’t allow for the modifications I planned to do without changing the colour scheme radically, which I didn’t want to do).

04. Another type of side view, like from a “lying-on-the-ground” perspective. This was the first idea for the landing gear, but it was scarcely challenging and far too simple. And, why would a supersonic ship need wheels in its landing gear? For the take-off? It just didn’t look right.

05. An aerial front view, offering you a clean view of the landing gear I devised for the front of the ship. It may look too wide, but it needed to be like this because the landing gear at the rear makes the ship unstable, and so it doesn’t stand “upright” properly.

06. Another aerial front view.

07. Another aerial front view. In this one, it seems the clone pilot got drunk, and so the ship is tilting sideways; the front-back balance is good, but it tilts sideways easily, due to the structure of the landing gear I devised for the rear.

08. Another aerial front view, showing the top section of the wings in full display (actually the wings are a part I am very proud of, yet I didn’t make many modifications).

09. Another aerial front view, and another pic in which you see how the ship tilts sideways.

10. A side view in which you can see the support for the landing gear I built for the front (there will be more detailed pics on how to build both landing gears further down).

11. A side view. This is how the ship would tilt forward if you only installed the landing gear on the rear.

12. A side view. This is how it would tilt backward if you only installed the landing gear on the back.

13. A close-up on the front, and a view on both landing gears (the one in the rear, as you can see, tilts sideways easily, while the one on the front is quite stable).

14. Another close-up on the front, without the “tilting” effect.

15. Another close-up on the front, again without the “tilting” effect.

16. Another close-up on the front, again without the “tilting” effect (sorry if I’m boring you, but I made many detailed photos on this particular subject).

17. Another close-up on the front, again without the “tilting” effect, and the top part of both wings in full display.

18. A close-up on the rear with the top part of both wings displayed. As you can see, I made no changes to the thrusters, as I thought they didn’t look bad at all.

19. Another, more detailed, close-up on the rear, with the wings in landing position.

20. Another, more detailed, close-up on the rear. The wings start to unfold…

21. A view of the ship from quite a distance.

22. Wingless with the cockpit on. The main body of the ship, with the altered cockpit sealing and some other minor details which I hope you can appreciate here.

23. Wingless with the cockpit off, allowing you to see how I sealed off the cockpit and how I added some other minor details.

24. The ship in flight, with the wings in full display and the definitive landing gears. Yes, that is my hand, but the ship is far too heavy to stand up on the standard trans-pieces (like the ones I used to display my two speeder bike MOCs in flight).

25. Another pic of the ship in flight, with the wings in full display and the definitive landing gears. Yes, that again is my hand, but you already know why it is there, however annoying it may be.

26. A close-up on the rear of the ship with the alternative “wheelie-pieces” landing gear, while the ship is standing on two columns of yellow 4x4x2 lego pieces (the cube-like ones).

27. A close-up on the front of the ship with the alternative “wheelie-pieces” landing gear, while the ship is standing on two columns of yellow 4x4x2 lego pieces (the cube-like ones).

28. The special close-ups on the wingless ship. The new cockpit sealing structure, built in for aesthetic reasons.

29. The special close-ups on the wingless ship. A side view of how the cockpit looks kinda sealed-off for space fighting.

30. The special close-ups on the wingless ship. A side view of how the clone manoeuvres this ship (the LEGO version included no details on this part).

31. The special close-ups on the wingless ship. I still don’t know why some pics came out so blurry, but this is supposed to show the sealing off of the cockpit.

32. The special close-ups on the wingless ship. Here is a non-blurry side view of the cockpit and the clone in it (the reason why I took no photographs of the ship without the clone in is because the modifications introduced make it hard for the clone to seat in the cockpit, which is more reduced than the one in the LEGO version).

33. An “oh-not-so-special” close-up on the wingless ship. And again, it is inexplicably blurry, and yet you can see the wings on the background.

34. The wings, and the alterations I made to the main exterior components.

35. The other side of the wings, where I made few alterations.

36. The main interior components (the ones that attach the wings to the sides of the ship).

37. Another view of the main interior components (the ones that attach the wings to the sides of the ship).

38. A view of the “wheelie” landing gear and the undercarriage.

39. A view of the definitive landing gear on the rear.

40. The distance between the hull on the undercarriage, and the front support pieces for the front landing gear.

41. Another view on the distance between the hull on the undercarriage, and the front support pieces for the front landing gear.

42. The front landing gear pieces in position.

43. A view of the pieces needed to allow the rear landing gear to be attached to the undercarriage (actually, they are only necessary for the “wheelie” style undercarriage, but they aren’t much of a nuisance anyway if I don’t remove them).

44. The rear landing gear pieces in position with the wings in full display.

45. The rear landing gear pieces in position with the wings in landing position.

46. The undercarriage and the structure of both landing gears. The front landing gear fully built.

47. The undercarriage and the structure of both landing gears. A side view of the fully built front landing gear.

48. The undercarriage and the structure of both landing gears. A view of the three main sections partially torn apart.

49. The components of the front landing gear. A front view.

50. The components of the front landing gear. A rear view.

51. The components of the front landing gear. A side view (it is symmetrical).

52. The components of the front landing gear. A view of the thing lying down.

53. The components of the front landing gear. The pieces needed for the “foot” and the fully built example next to it.

54. The components of the front landing gear. The pieces needed for the “foot-holder” central component.

55. The components of the rear landing gear. A random front/ back view (it is symmetrical).

56. The components of the rear landing gear. A side view (it is also symmetrical in this direction).

57. The components of the rear landing gear. The pieces you need to build it.

Thanks for the comment. I don't know if this ship would have a landing gear (probably wouldn't need to in SW). Answering to what you said about knowing there is a Lego SW fan in HK, I do not actually live in Hong Kong (though the weather's probably better now than when I travelled there in July 2008): shortly after I posted this MOC here on mocpages I went there and spent some days (around a week) before 'entering' the PRC for around a month. Anyway, it was a nice trip, even despite the very intense heat that only lessened in Yunnan province. I might have to return (both to HK and to the PRC) some day because a series of circumstances made me not be able to visit the Tian Tian Buddha in Mui Wo island, Lantau (though I happened to spend an afternoon on the beach near the ferry quay... oh, well, it's a rather long story) and I *only* visited the three southernmost provinces of the PRC, namely Guangzhousheng, Guangxisheng and Yunnansheng for my first linguistic immersion in Chinese. Freedom!

I'm sorry to cause you the inconvenience (my mom just talked to me about it) and I hope I have not offended you. Oh and I decided to comment on this because it is very good.
