minigun chaingun vulcan gatling machine gun fully automatic working firing repeating extreme rubber band full auto
About this creation
this is a minigun/vulcan/chaingun
it is very mini... compared to the first gatling guns, so i guess things have improved.
it has 8 barrels, each with a capacity of about 13 woolys rubber bands, totaling to 104 rubber bands.
it can fire at a max of 12 bands per second, but this can be altered (see below)
the barrel wheel (the bit that spins) can be easily and quickly detached, which is very useful for loading and maintennance.
for those of you not familiar with lego mindstorms, the big white/grey block infront of the rear grip is an NXT brick, a programmable computer with inputs for sensors and outputs for motors. i used it because it allows me to have a readout of:
how many bands i have (+/- about 3)
the percentage of power being sent to the 2 motors, out how much the NX brick is able to sent. this can be changed by pressing the left and right buttons, but the default setting is 100%
the rpm of the motors and barrel wheel (they are connected to a ratio of 1:1)
the rate of fire in bps (bands per second) that i would have if i pulled the trigger (or the present rate of fire if i am)
the gun was based on pics of real miniguns that i found in a google image search, that explains the fore and rear grip designs.
the gun has a special safety, which is that you have to be holding the gun by the fore grip (and pulling it up) to engage the motors with the barrel wheel, to stop accidental firing (the main reason for this is that it takes ages to load again, which is about the ony downside). of course, i disabled this so that i could take some of the pictures.
like Sebs gun, this isnt exactly "tactical", but then what lego fully auto gun with a very big magasine isn't? (i dont know Seb personally, i just read his page on his minigun. if you havent seen it, just type in ultimate lego chaingun into the search box).
if i could, i would allow you to download the program for inspiration, but i dont know how.
i would also embed a video, but my parents wont let me have a youtube account.
i guess that there isnt much else to say, but if you have any reasonable questions, just post them in a comment and i should be able to answer them.
this is the mechainsm for the band release, you should be able to tell how it works.
the barrel wheel, detached
the rest of the gun
the mechanism for the fore grip safety (see above)(that red bit is a gearbox shifter, which will get plugged into a differential box, which has the right kind of hole at each end.
me firing some bands at a wall. you can just see one of them has jus been released and is about to fly off...
this is the NXT screen, showing (top to bottom): amount of bands left;motor power; barrel wheel rpm; rate of bps
this is the gate lock style quick release clips that hold the end of the barrel wheel to the bars that go by its side
the joystick style rear grip
this is a minigun that i built a few years ago, but it was pretty rubbish, as it only had 6 barels, and a max capacity of about 36 bands. if you want to see it, though, go to:

EDIT: a reply to hoang phong's question - i have put the program in the page that the link above takes you to, just download the bit that says "moc pages - the program" or something like that.(dated 14/08/08)

Absolutely SICK, Dude. You should get a friend with You Tube to let you post a video, and put links here, I'd love to watch this beast in action. Also, how many welts have you raised on unfortunate victims at 12 RBS? I gotta know. -Huss Q. |
