LEGO Color "Chips"
Six scans of LEGO color chips
About this creation

My fascination with the "rare" LEGO colors started in 1997 when I
started back into the hobby. What seemed to be rare in '97 in common now for the
most part. I sometimes laugh at my older MOCs that in the day where bleeding
edge (color wise) and now seem mundane. Anyway I continue to build in as rare of
colors as I can find (with the condition that I won't spend ~$2 per brick!).

I decided to scan as many bricks that I have that I can actually build in.
Getting one or two is hard enough. sometimes. A fellow club member, Dave VinZant,
also has taken to LEGO colors. He aspires to have a complete color palette in
any element he can find. He also has a rather nice collection of minifigs in
every color per body part that has been made (except the clear one!). Here is a
GREAT Brick Link
resource!

Brick Chart ver3

Below are six images of color "chips" that are completely made from
LEGO elements. They are arranged as such:

1) the frame is made from white bricks

2) colors across the top are: red, blue, yellow, green, old brown, & tan

3) colors across the bottom are: old gray, old dark gray, & black

4) no touch-up has been done, hopefully the standard colors adjacent will serve
as a reference

5) these color names are provided by Dave VinZant, he seems to have a handle
on the color name chaos :)

Here's an older color chart that I attempted. I used a rather large Pantone palette
out in the sun light to color match the values. Most of them did not have a good
match so I picked the closest I could find. At the time I was in my mid thirties
eye sight (wrt color blindness) = OK
