UCS Millenium Falcon with Interior
A complete redesign of the inside of the LEGO UCS Millenium Falcon to add interior spaces throughout the ship
About this creation
Millenium Falcon Rebuild

I never expected to own the UCS Millenium Falcon. All I have to say is that I have an awesome wife, and that I need to get really creative for next year's anniversary gift...

It took me about a week of sorting and building to get it put together, and it looked awesome. But then I knew that I wanted to add an interior. For those of you who have seen the inside of the UCS Millenium Falcon, you know this isn't a trivial task. Technic beams run through the entire thing giving it incredible structural stability. It was a major task to undo that while keeping the frame strong enough to be stable and support the weight of the forward mandibles. Soon I'll upload some "in progress" pictures. Basically I kept the outside plates and framing, and redid the entire middle section from scratch.

It was a lot of fun!

View of the aft cargo hold near the loading ramp and engine room. I tried to fill the remaining voids in the side of the craft with greebling. Let's call those the shield generators.

This is probably (aside from the cockpit) the room with the most source material. I know the bley doesn't mix well with the greys... but hey, it's the Millenium Falcon. I figure Han would use whatever he had to fix up his ship.

The engine room with hyperdrive generator at the top of the picture. And it does *not* have a sticker labeling it "hyperdrive"... ugh.

This is where I started with the redesign - though it was the easiest to do in terms of reconstruction, it was also a lot more involved than I thought it would be. The good news is that there turned out to be a lot of space in the cockpit once most of the structure was removed.

Another angle of the forward hold / crew compartment, this time showing the access panel for repairs. Because of the way the port and starboard corridors are shaped (with the top and bottom angle plates, I had to build the floor of the Falcon two bricks up from the bottom of the ship. This created lots of problems with "head room" toward the edges, but it did let me create this little pit for Han and Chewie to work on...

The crew quarters for the Millenium Falcon. Not much detail visible from this angle, but I filled some of the angle spaces with greebling - I mean, essential ship systems.

This is kind of an overall view of the interior. My main reference picture was a schematic from the Millenium Falcon Wiki entry. One of the constraints from the location of the access tunnel to the gun turrets is that the back half of the ship had more room than the front should have had. Compromises were made, but I'm pleased that it follows the general idea.

Here you can see that the top plates fit back on pretty much as they should. It is probably just a smidge taller than it should be, in order to accommodate the interior walls.

This is the entry to the gun turret shaft.

At first, I wanted to seal the turret shaft into the center of the ship, but it's easier to put minifigs into the seats by taking the whole thing out.

As I finished and was moving the ship onto a black sheet for photographing, this greeble fell off. I didn't feel like going through the manual to figure out where it should go. I'm just *that* lazy.

Q & A

Did you base yours off a bit of Pepa Quinns? Pepa's version is really nice. I actually hadn't seen his version until after I was almost done. I especially like his doorways - a lot better than mine. Those arches definitely are the way to go.

you got a great wife I really can't argue that :)

Can the top be put back on for display purposes? Yep. (and I'll have a picture or two up soon that will illustrate it) The whole thing pretty much fits back together just as the original, with a few modifications: some of the hull structure that was anchored to the inside of the falcon and exposed through 'holes' in the upper hull (you know what I mean if you've seen the UCS Falcon) was attached to the external plates instead. For the radar dish, that still connects to the inside of the ship.

Hello Ivan! Thank you for your kind words -- it was a lot of fun to create an interior for the Millenium Falcon. I know that LEGO has released a number of Millenium Falcon sets with interiors, but they have not released a UCS scale model with an interior. Maybe someday! But that's the great thing about LEGO, we can be creative and build our own, and learn new ways of building as we go. Happy building, and all the best to you and your father!

Your job is incredible. It is the very best job of this kind I have ever seen. Do you know if Lego sells this Millenium Falcon with furnished interior nowadays? If yes, what is the reference number? Salutations and congrratulations from Spain. Ivan (9 years old) and his father Oscar

Ahh yes...removing structural supports. Glad to see it worked out for you. I'm trying to make the UCS Star Destroyer into a Venator Class Star Destroyer, so I too have had to play around with technic supports. I only hope my finished ship looks as crisp as this! Detail is incredible, I love the studless floor! Excellent work!

Aahh, icic. If I got a UCS Falcon I probably couldn't be able to do mods as fantastic as yours! Right now I'm just finishing up my custom Falcon, its about two feet long. Thanks for the answer. Again, outstanding work. Thanks

Quoting Field Commander Jones have a question: Without any mods done to the ship, just building it by the book, is there any interior whatsoever?
Hey! That was one of my first questions when I heard that this set was coming out. The only interior elements at all are the cockpit and a chair and steering wheel for Luke on the top gun turret. The rest of the standard interior is literally filled with structure that keeps it stable. You can actually take one little section of the top off, and carry it around (or swoosh it) with two hands. Definitely something I can't do anymore...

I have found only one flaw with this: the cockpit hallway should be angled. But making it like that would be nigh impossible. So you still get 5.

WOW!!! This is just outstanding! It looks A LOT like the interior really does! Just absolutely amazing! And the fact that it's still stable! have a question: Without any mods done to the ship, just building it by the book, is there any interior whatsoever? Just reply whenever. I posted a Falcon but you can't comment on it yet because I'm not finished uploading it (I can only do 1 pic at a time) So, yeah. Thanks

Hey Tucker, thanks -- glad you liked it. And yep, LOL - there *is* a bathroom. (funny how many people never think of these things) You can barely see it in the main picture just to the left of the shaft Luke and Han use to get to the quad laser turrets.

Quoting Olivier French Hi Brian, I have seen your job and it is simply incredible... the force was with you. I am looking to build the interior of my own millenium and I would be interested if you had made plans. How did you get the pieces to realize it? thanks for your attention
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I didn't make any plans, maybe a few photos of the process. I didn't buy any special bricks for the interior, just used what I had around. Probably the hardest thing was keeping it from falling apart while trying to create an interior. All the best to you!

Iam about 6 hours into the project, every support beam I take out I question whether I should continue, but ive made it to the point where its just the outer rim and I am wondering what you did for support with yours? It looks like you got a pretty thick floor on yours but is that enough when lifting it up and its supporting itself? Also I found where that greeble fell off yours it just fell of mine taking out the front gear I see in your first pictures its missing right below the red on the front left pylon.

Excellent Job! The interior is sweet as! Han Solo would be proud. I also built the UCS Millenium Falcon, but did not reconstruct the interior like you, wish I had! I thought the model was too good for the shelf so I had a glass cabinet made for it. Well once again Excellent Job! P.S. Check my UCS Millenium Falcon out.
