Earth Alliance Hyperion Class heavy cruiser from the Babylon 5 universe.
About this creation
The Hyperion Class heavy cruiser is an Earth Alliance starship from the Babylon 5 future history timeline. When mankind made first contact with the Centari and other races, a tragic discovery awaited: the universe was full of warring star-empires. This forced Earth to build military starships for defence. While the Hyperion is now outclassed by the newer Omega Class destroyers, the remaining heavy cruisers have been refitted to extend their useful service life. Ships of this class saw action in the Dilgar invasion, the Earth-Minbari war, and the Earth civil war. John Sheridan took command of the EAS Lexington during the Earth-Minbari war and used the ship's nuclear space mines to destroy a Minbari heavy cruiser called the Black Star.
Ship statistics
- Length: 1188 meters
- Mass: 31,500 metric tons
- Crew: 350 plus 200 troops
- Armament: 2 heavy plasma pulse cannons, 8 medium pulse cannons, 2 fusion missile tubes, 6 Starfury fighters.
The model is 31 inches long (0.795 meters) which makes it about 1/1500 scale. For comparison, minifig scale is about 1/45. The ship took about nine hours to build.

Prior to the Earth-Minbari war, the Hyperion and her sister ships were the pride of Earthforce. Most of these ships did not survive that war.

The main hull of the Hyperion. The two visible pulse cannon turrets are a portion of the total of eight such units that provide all around defense and, if necessary, offensive firepower. Each of these turrets have hemispheric firing arcs.

A sensor array occupies the tip of the bow. Above and behind the sensors is the main battery of two heavy plasma pulse cannons. Since they have limited traverse, the entire ship must be rotated to aim these weapons.

There are no minifigs since at this scale they would be about the size of a pinhead. The Hyperion has no internal gravity so the crew must strap into their battlestations.

This ship will only be used for defensive purposes unless one of you warmongers attacks my Lego civilization and destroys my Fisher Building. Then the admiral will quote from the original Klingon: "Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!" as he launches the Earthforce fleet against your world!

Wow, I think this is the only B-5 MOC I've seen. Now all you need are some custom minifigs of the characters. |
