Epic of Beowulf Part 1
Epic of Beowulf Part 1. Grendel's first attack/Beowulf comes to Heorot.
About this creation
The main picture is of Hrothgar, King of the Danes.

This is Beowulf, the hero of the story.

This is Unferth, a rival of Beowulf.

The story begins at Heorot Hall. The Danes are happily feasting and drinking. Everyone was happy… except one.

A powerful demon from hell, Grendel was his name. Grendel was angry at the Danes so after dark he snuck up to Heorot. While the men were drunk and sleeping Grendel came upon them.

There he created havoc. He slaughtered many men leaving butchered bodies all over the floor. We can only imagine the horror of the man who found the scene the next morning.

For twelve long years the king suffered from Grendel’s raids. Before long, news of the vicious attacks had spread. Only one man was powerful enough to take up the challenge of stopping Grendel. This man was Beowulf, from Geatland. Beowulf was the mightiest man on earth in his time. No one tried to keep him from going, no elder denied him. So Beowulf gathered his men and found a boat that would get them safely across the sea.

Beowulf’s men climbed eagerly up the gangplank, they loaded a cargo of weapons and supplies. With the wind behind them, the ship flew like a bird across the open water.

When they sighted land they thanked God for their safe passage across the calm sea.

Nice. I'm holding the book Beowulf as I write this. You were very true to the story. Very nice job on the retelling.

I have the story in my English textbook and it spells it Grendel. I think my textbook came from England so thats why the spelling is different.
