I made a 2ft. tall trebuchet after watching an episode on the history channel about seige weapons. I brought it to Brickworld 2007 and it was a hit. During the convention someone asked if I planned on building a bigger one. For a couple of months I toyed with the idea and then decided why not? This Trebuchet is over 6ft. tall and is entirely out of LEGOŽ , including the counterweight. I finished it about 2 months before Brickworld 2008, when I found out that they were going to have a distance and accuracy competition with seige weapons. It won 1st. Place in the distance throwing. It threw (4) 2x4 bricks over 26ft. I have been trying to make adjustments to it in order to throw them further, but at this point no luck. You can see it on You Tube by typing "Large LEGOŽ Trebuchet". So far there are no plans for a larger one(I need a bigger house first). For the record the trophies for the contest were not at Brickworld in time so I made my own very modest trophy.
UPDATE!!!!!
At Brickworld 2009 a new distance was achieved at 38 ft. 7 in. , but it was not by this trebuchet! My smaller trebuchet "The Flinger" set the new distance to the surprise of everyone this past June.
As of August 9, 2009 this is the "World's Largest LEGOŽ Trebuchet" please follow this link to see this and other LEGO records: http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/lego.html
I don't know if you have seen Scrapheap Challange I know you have a remake version in america called Junk yard wars. But on one of our episodes they build a giant trebuchet that can fling small cars. It would be amazing if you could build one that size.
I wonder has anyone been killed by lego before other than swallowing it?
Didn't need the youtube, I saw this thing first hand at the event and even made a comment about it in my Brickworld post! I loved it! Great work on this. And as far as building a bigger one, the garage is free isn't it? ~ Chris.
