Ok I know some of you were disappointed with the lack of story/commentary. Well I wanted you to know why that didn't happen, it's because I was having trouble with my internet all week and I was afraid that if I took the time to write everything my internet would go down and then I wouldn't be able to post at all. So there you have it.
I am not going to write any photo commentary but I will gice my thoughts here and then below I will reply to the comments. First off the MocOlympics have been great fun and a challenge, while also being extremley annoying, frustrating and difficult. At least for me. But still I am glad I had the opprotunity to participate.
Mech has to be one of my weakest categories. I just really don't do well building them. Maybe I should try them more often to hone my skills.
Any way My little "story" is this. It is an Orion class light defense mech. Carrying two anti-air cannons and two anti-personell cannons. It used to defend small bases and other slightly less important objectives.
Sven: Thank you, it's not an original idea but I liked how it looked.
Patrick: Small story added.
ElNickre: You did a great job on your Mech. I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Andrew: I noticed the same thing, I don't know why.
Brian: I appreciate the comment, I am glad you enjoyed it and I completley understand why you chose Nick's over mine. He did a great job. As for fitting a fig, it could have. That was the original plan but then I decided I didn't want to hassle with an interior.
Chris: There is now a small backstory.
Sho: I find your comment somewhat cold and harsh. You do not even know the time and effort I put into this. It took a terrribly long time for me to get this mech into a half decent looking shape. Granted I agree it's not a great one compared to others. But it is the absolute best that "I" could do.
wow is this a star wars walker it looks like an AT walker but i guess not. thanks for the comment on my nebula sorry for not makin more progress but i am at a halt i dont have enough pieces and im lookin for sites to buy pieces so sorry.
Well, that ends the suspense. I really do wish that both of us could progress to the second round, although, unfortunately, that cannot be so. As Mark said, feel NO shame! Really, many aspects of this little beauty leave my mech's features in the dust! I'll have to work on my legs next time...thank you so much Master Gongfu! This has been a lot of fun. I'm glad that we were paired together; it helped me discover a truly talented builder! I'll be checking in here every now and again to see what you've been up to! Happy building, sir! Yours brickly, Nick
While I've given my vote for Nick's excellent Mech, I have to say this was yet another very close match. REALLY nice looking design! I chose ElNickre for his complexity and sense of weight, but I think you might have him on aesthetics. If you were to work back into this, I might suggest a bit more thickness in the legs, and perhaps a few details or greebly areas. Still...feel no shame in the loss. You put together a great Mech with a clean look, and some nice lines! Well done.
It's another tough decision, but in the end, with all things considered, I pick you. Although the builds and creativity were relatively close, I think your design had a few more interesting angles. He had you beat on detail and size, but your mech was more cohessive and seemed to flow better.
Yeah, I do think that Sho is being cold. Everybody should admire a MOC that a builder obviously put effort into. This is, without a doubt, an admirable piece of work! I now understand why you're called "Master" Gongfu. Hey, I have not won yet, so you never know what the two remaining judges will think! Really, be proud of yourself! You're an excellent builder, and a very gracious opponent, and that really means something. I forgot to mention earlier, that I ENVY those legs! They can move!
I like the sleek design of this. It has that "future, cold, non-feeling" vibe. I agree with Patrick that I would have liked a little story with it or some specs on the mech but you know what? This isn't the story category so it's all good. Great job. ~ Chris.
This is a sweet little mech. I love the sleek style and the interesting proportions you gave to the classic chicken walker design. However, it’s not quite enough to take down Nick’s beast…but it was close. Now, if you could only fit a mini-fig inside there... Anyway, nice MOC.
