What's that I smell? Smells a bit like...*sniff*...ah yes. COMPETITION!
About this creation
Yes, I do smell competition; it's given me the mech fever!
The dark dawn of the future...
347 corpses were recovered from ZONE 541 forty-eight hours ago. Discarded weapons, clothing, and personal belongings of ZONE-Captives have all been scanned and archived. Evidence of ZONE-Captive 1021's presence was not uncovered from the scene; therefore, he is currently held responsible. He is only known as "Darovic" and has been charged of mass murder numerous times in his past. The obvious signs of a psychopath. The fear etched upon the faces of those fallen...what horror could have mutilated so many so quickly, without a trace? Little evidence of what caused the massacre was found, other than large footprints stretching along the barren land...continuing out of sight...the tracks of a demon."
"I stumbled as the shower of flame and earth descended upon me...sheltering my scarred face from the sea of ash and dust, I began to dream...I felt the heavy pitter patter of the rain through the rock beneath me...I imagined it's crisp, refreshing taste...I slowly awoke to find that no water had fallen from the sky...the stench of death and silence tormented my senses...and as I turned, stared into the soulless eye of a demon, illuminated through the fog...the beast wasted no time and it trudged onward, sending a hail-shower of lead upon the captives of this Hell-hole. It screeched a battle cry with every step it took, until I embraced the heat of it's foot, as it descended upon me..."
Afterthoughts and Additional Commentary:
There ya' have it! Keskenovitz, Kelso, Ludgonius, get judging! First and foremost, I would like to thank the gracious host of the MocOlympics (as if I have to tell you who that is) for the excuse to stay away from the outside world. Really, it's way better to stay indoors in a dark room, than being cooked up outdoors. It's like hibernating! Fun! (Okay, crummy joke; if I have to tell you that...wow, you need to get out more) Mastergongfu...er...Good luck? No, that sounds a bit egotistical...great job! There ya' have it! I was originally thinking about naming this beast "the Hungry Zealot", but in the end, I settled for "Demon Eye". That glowing green light haunts me in my dreams, so the title seemed to suit this hunk of plastic pretty well. Okay, now that business is taken care of, a word from our...
It appears that my cat has uploaded some photos of her own. That little rascal! Sascha is evidently starving for attention! I'm too busy building to play with you. Oh, and stop eating the plants!
Okay, one last shot...
As you can see, the legs are separate from the torso.
Sorry it took so long for me to comment back. Well congrats to you on taking home the win. I hope you do just as well, and better in the 2nd round!!! I have to say I am very glad I got paired up with you. Your a great buidler whom I had never really noticed before. Oh and thanks for the linkage on your homepage.
Sorry for the delay in judging (had to go out of town for work). Anyway, a belated congrats to you, El Nickre...I'm giving you my vote! While I feel Gongfu's Mech is a cleaner build, I like the weight and complexity of this one. The legs do have a rather immobile appearance, but that would be about the only change I'd recommend if you were to work back into it. So good job on a unique Mech, and now get ready for round two!
It's another tough decision, but in the end, with all things considered, I pick... Mastergongfu. I wish I could explain my thought process behind the decision and break it down to you point by point just so you could see how close it really was. This is quite possibly the toughest decision yet. With the builds and creativity relatively close, I made my decision based on solely on the fact that his design just had a few more interesting angles. Your's looks great and you had more/better details, but the straight legs on your mech just didn't stand out as much as your competitor.
You did a great job. I love the colors and the appocish feel. Poseable legs would have been nice, but still you obviously beat me into oblivion with this little number. Oh and just in case you were curious I did update my entry with a small description.
Everybody, you have my thanks. It's refreshing to read some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism! I totally agree with you all; I put so much of my soul into the lower legs, that I did not emphasize the legs' knee joints quite enough. The torso pretty much overshadows the leg joints, but trust me, they're there! To Shannon: honestly, I can't imagine YOU, of all people, having a girlfriend! BURN! Anyway, you can take my cat! Seriously, I'll send her to you in the mail!
You better be nice to your cat. My dad is now on his third cat that prefers me to him. I had a girlfriend that moved in with her cat, and within days he chose me over her (she never quite forgave me for that). I've had friends whose cats liked me better than the humans they lived with. Watch out, I'll steal your kitty too!
I gotta agree that the only week point is the legs (but then again, look what I built). That aside, I really like the almost steampunk feel of this design. Or maybe it's post apoc? Doesn't matter, it ROCKS! You guys both did excellent work this round. Good luck! ~ Chris.
Hmm…another tough decision. OK, let’s see. I like the massive feel, the fabulous detailing, and the overall style, but…those legs. I like to see a decent range of motion in the legs of a mech, and unless I’m missing something, these don’t look very poseable at all. Now, I know that can be tough to achieve in a bulky design like this, but these just look so…straight and static. Despite this issue, I’m still giving you my vote because the rest of it looks so darn impressive (though Mastergongfu made it close with his sleek little number). Well done, Nick!
