strong, powerful RBG with a capacity of 20 'bullets'
About this creation
This is a fully controlled sub-machine gun made from my new Lego mindstorms set. it is basically a standard semi-auto rbg with an automated trigger. it took 3 weeks to get right. the result: a quite nice looking gun with a maximum capacity of 20 bands, fairly accurate if loaded with less than 10 bands, 3 modes: locked, semi- and full-auto, selected with a nice switch.
view from the left. the gun is quite good-looking, i think. it can stand on its magazine (actually the NXT control block) and pistol grip. note the wires.
the stock folded. the stock is rather fragile, as it was made from rods. it doesn't have much use, just make the gun look better.
the top hatch opened for loading. initially, i intended to build the gun with a swinging barrel, so you gonna break it like in a shotgun to load the ammo. but the barrel turned out to be too heavy to be locked in place with a bolt.
a glimpse of the mechanism inside. i made a few upgrade since, so the actual gearing is a bit different. the gun use the small ammo( see my "Grand Slam RBG" for details)
up the real barrel(top) and the fake one(bottom). the quite long barrel block stray bullets away, so only the accurate ones can make it to the target. but this reduce the number of bullets coming out of the gun to about 17 only.
the ultra compact configuration, with the long fake barrel plugged in the back. useful if you wanna bring the gun to grandma's house for target practice.
a crude iron sight, most effective at long range, because the bands has a tendency to fly upward. note the green piece. that's where you plug the barrel in the ultra-compact configuration.
the trigger pulled back. a lever will then press against the touch sensor.
switching the fire mode selector. it uses the NXT's rotation sensor.
i'm uploading the program onto NXTlog. I'll post the link to the program soon, so stay tuned.
OK, i didn't make a video of this gun, but there are videos of version 2 here.
