This moc was Moc Of The Day on 2 July 2009 (MOTD= creation featured on the homepage)
This creation has been nominated for an honorable MOCie Award in 2009 (but it didn't win)

- - - -Update - - - - the ship was demolished in the beginning of 2011.
it rested on my "permanent" shelf for three years (so far the permanent shelf). I hope to rebuild it one day

LEGO® Flying Dutchman / Vliegende Hollander
The design is based mainly on the Flying Dutchman seen in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and At World's End
The Flying Dutchman is a sailing ship connected to the sea more than any other ship, it lives, It is more organic plant matter than timber and sail.
It has the ability to sail against the wind which makes it a perfect ghostship.
You might find this disign inaccurate to the real thing.
accuration doesn't always go well with playablity and this ship was meant to be played with.
Anyway, this is my biggest ship ever, the hardest part was the cabin (wich is still not the way it should be)
The ship was built over 2 months, including the designing and gathering of bricks
I posted this page on my birthday.
Let's start with some main pictures, not only it is big, it's heavy too (it weights almost 3 kg).
The Flying Dutchman has earned a place on my permanent shelf, which means it won't be demolished :)

My sigfig aboard the Flying Dutchman.
Notice the big balcony, there's an entrance on both sides.
the bridge, the fin on the stern is a personal touch, I added some small stairs as well.
The triple cannon, making the dutchman able to fire non-stop forward
₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪₪
The gun deck, room for 10 guns in the lower deck, 10 in the mid deck and if nescesary 6 on the top deck, making a total of 26 broadside cannon.
The ship is accomodated with several hatches and sliding sections so their is easy access to the interior, the cabin and the decks can be opened, fold or taken out. the upper deck can be taken out along with the middle deck to reveal the lower deck, that's right, this ship has three decks (which makes it not only the largest but also the most compact ship I've ever made).
The crow's nest worked out fine, alas I only have one of those white handle ropes so the ship only has one crow's nest
Here is a comparison shot (It really excists)
Considering that I haven't seen any other lego Flying Dutchmans on the net, I suppose it's safe to say that this is the best Flying Dutchman replicated in LEGO®
This is what I wrote when I posted this page on 11 october 2008, by now there appeared several versions on the net. It's kind of cool to be the first one though ;)
Considering the rating of this page:
This page had been very popular and should have had nearly 300 likes but someone decided to spam with over 200 comments which made somebody else rate it down dramatically thinking I was a self-rater. This resulted in this page having 638 likes and an average score of only 4/5.
Sean (founder of mocpages) removed the spam comments but the rating and "likes" stayed the same.
This page might be on the top of the pirate category but I did not want this, not like this.
It makes me unhappy that the integrity of my page has been corrupted this way, I hope the rating and "likes" do not affect your judgement and you are able to appreciate this creation, thank you.
The comparison pics at the end of the post nail the deal for me. You have left nothing unaddressed, no detail un-attempted. It's a stellar example of accuracy in building. I always build things that I have made up precisely because I am un-able to attain this level of image fidelity. It's a marvel to me. Attack!
I think it's safe to say that anybody else wanting to do better than this would be in for a very tough job! That is very beautifully detailed and it is very close to the movie original. Excellent work, an epic build :-)

I have afew ships which could from a "small" armada, I still can't convince myself to buy the black pearl, there's so few in it for such a high price

nice ship.really goog detail.Sebeus can you make a maelstrom? You built the pearl so you can make a maelstrom.you can even build a whrilpool from legos.
Both ships are already demolished, but even if I still had them, it would be pretty impossible to build a whirlpool big enough to contain both ships. Besides, the scale would not be correct either, my black pearl was bigger than my flying dutchman XD

You now, They have a brand new thing called LEGO CuuSoo. It's where you take a picture of your creation, put it on there,if it gets 10,000 likes, Lego will consider it and if THEY like it they will make it into a set and you make 1 percent net profits from it.
Yeah I know, I was thinking about putting this ship on :)

Okay, so I hit the button about twenty times before the comment went through, but only one was posted...So, that's not how it's done. Hmmm?
I'm guessing that is how it WAS done, I wasn't the only one experiencing the problem, I a sollution has been found
I'm sorry for commenting again, but whenever I look at this it fills me with aw, it's huge, it's realistic, and it's amazing!
The way you have the skill to make somthing like this is stunning, you captured the exact shape of the Duchman, and the Organ is perfect, exellent job Sabus, exellent!
Hello, I am here to remind you about a contest you are in, The F.I. Product Contest. The deadline for entries is the 15 of June, so if you are sill interested; say something like that in the group (I can't keep track of all these notifications). If you don't wish to continue, please say that as well, so I know. >Eric

wow..... uh.. this is quite something, you really should make like five, sell them to people and make profit. now the new pirates of the caribbean lego you should add those new minifigs
:P it would be cool to earn som money with lego but I don't think I can make profit out of this design, to make it it would probably cost more than 200 euro's so that means I would have to sell it for more than 200 euro's which makes it a very expensive product not many people would buy :S

I saw the new Flying Dutchman you were building on your Flickr. I thought it was pretty good, But not enough grey bricks? I hope you would continue to add on to it as it goes, who knows, after seeing all these great creations you have built in the past, it WILL turn out to be the best Lego Flying Dutchman anybody has ever thought of. And take your time, large ships weren't built in one day!

EPIC!
That's one creepy ghost ship!
I haven't seen Dead Mans Chest or Worlds End, but I saw the Flying Duchman in a TV preview and you built this thing as good as anyone else could!
I can't wait for the Black Pearl!
Is it the haunted one as seen in Curse of the Black Pearl or Jack's version?
I'm going for the haunted one but I based my design mostly on Jack's version

It's not the amount of comments but the quality of them which is important
WOW!! I don't know what else to say..... I love it! I really like the crow's nest and sails. This thing is loaded with canons! A very accurate model if I do say so myself (and I will :P). 5/5 PS: I know you are really busy, but if you get the chance, could you look at some of my MOCs? Thx!

Excellent level of detail. Believe it or not, this is the 12th most popular creation on the whole of mocpages!
it is ? wow, cool, but that only means it has quite some "I like it" 's, there are hundreds of creations more popular than this one, real popularity isn't the same as a lot of "I like it". It's cool though :)
This is probably one of the best tall-ships on mocpages! Fantastic Greebling, the organ is awsome! Just an all round abso-fricken-lutely brilliant moc! I can see why you don't want to break it apart!

I know many people have said this before, but freaking whoa! What an awesome Dutchman! The level of detail is outstanding, the triple guns are perfect, and the removable decks offer great playability, superb work mate:D

Oh then, well I am sorry if I offended you, usally when I see a moc with like 800 I like its,and only like 200 comments,I look to see at who likes it,and I saw your name in it,I hate spam, but it's a awesome ship,I take back what I said in my previous comment.
oh, I see, yes, my name is among the list of "i like it", that's because when mocpages had just started the now comment system (it used to be called reviews) you could also comment on your own creation but it didn't say "I made it" and you had to give a rating in order to post the comment (and why would I give my own creation a low rating ? )
btw, you'll see it's impossible now to have your own name in the list "i like it" on your own creations, you need to be signed in to post a comment and when signed in you automaticly post under "I made it" so you can't give up a rating
But I see your point, I noticed some mocs with way too many ratings while very few comments, some builders don't care about what people think about their creations, they just want high ratings, I care and I care even more about what people think about me.
(btw, if you scroll down you'll see a comment of me where I quoted the one responsable for this amount of ratings, his comments are all deleted though)

This is very impressive, just one thing,it doesn't deserve 500 I like its,you self rated it,but I still like it,there's lots of nice features....
I didn't selfrated this, someone posted over 200 identical comments on this, I had to ask Sean to delete them, btw, check the overall rating, it sais 4/5 (because that person posted its comments with a 4/5 rating)
And I'm very offended by being called a selfrater, I don't do that, I care a lot about how others think about my creations and I don't consider mocpagesas a game where it's all about the most popular moc.
Btw, this moc already had around the 200 "I like it" before that one person spammed the page (it has been moc of the day once too)
If you don't believe me check out this link, it's a page with the same problem (though it's less extreme)
http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/60363
if you check out my other creations you'll notice there's only a small difference between the amount of ratings and comments
Anyway, thanks for your honest opinion, though you think I'm a selfrater you still appreciate the creation itself and I'm very pleased with that (except the fact that you think I'm a selfrater)

This ship is really amazing mate. I saw it before and I will look at it again :) Try to put it on your "permanent creation" shelf, it really deserves to stay built ;)
It's already there :) I just can't demolish it, a piece of my soul rests in the ship...

your stuff is my favourite on the MOC
...I appreciate your comment, but could you please write only one comment instead of 270 !!!!!
Anyway, I deleted some already.
btw, your 4/5 rating counts now also 270 times, it brought down the average rating from 5 to 4 and that is not cool
i was going to congrat u on getting more votes on this then your mustafar but then i saw y it was so highly ranked, 1st i wanta say again(this is only my second comment i wont comment again) but this is really good, no other thing like it on MOC, 2nd i would suggest on delleting all those comments but 1, again very cool, C Ya----Cindrealig.

Woohoo! my favorite out of your creations has got MOTD! I'm really happy, that's the kind of stuff we love to see at our favorite site's homepage :) Congrats.
now this is just awsome, the detile is great love the organ and its room, great job, u did just great. though id like to know how u got the music player, i know how 2 do it and all but it always says not to post them, and if i try it never works, any ideas?
well i got masts i just relized after i took the pics that i forgot to put them on and ive been to lazy to post new pics with them on lol :P but as for the parts i was lookin for like plates for my gun decks and stuff cuz im completly out of plates and im lookin at makin the ship longer cuz i think its to short.....also im going for my 3rd attempt at making the cabin look more relestic...i get better every time so once i find the parts expect to see an even longer ship with prolly 36 cannons and a better cabin :D hopfully :P it might take all summer tho :P it took me all winter to get the parts and build my current 1 :P
heyy i was just wonderin where do u get the parts for ur ships?? u can just respond on my H.M.S Entity ship.....whitch by the way is finnished if u wanna check it out :D

ja, zelfgemaakte wel, heb ik gezien in pirates of the caribbean

Hey GREAT SHIP!!!! i love how u get all the details like PERFECT and i really like the triple cannons! truly amazing i could never do anything like that lol :P and i was wondering if u would like to take a look at my ship and maby tell me some things i need to improve on if u do it would be greatly appreciated thanks! :D
There's so many thing in this MOC that are amazing I can't list them all! so here are the op five:
1. cabin on stern
2. triple guns
3. removable deck
4. bowsprit
5. the idea of making it!
Wow, just wow. This is definitely your masterpiece. The title picture looks quite a bit like the real thing, atleast as real as can be done with LEGO, the lighting effect is perfect. The intricacy of the exterior design amazes me, its very well done. I also like how compact it is, how everything opens up and/or can be removed. Incredible job mate!
Arrrhhh!!! very nice Dutchman you have there matey Ok, now that I've got my piratespeak out of my system... Brilliant cannon explosions, ladder made from handle-thingies, and great overall look and scale.

Groet Robin
Wow - you went totally balls-out on this ship. The outside sports the haunted look, while the interior with the organ - I just licked my eyebrows... Nice build. The sheer size does it for me... Woot!
Hi Sebeus
I have figured out how to upload more picures of the Pearl. Just thought you might be interested.I will continue to add more pictures gradually.
I wouldn't be able to build it while keeping the port intact, (unfortunatly) I have a limited lego collection. The Dutchman will be demolished some day to make something else...
Absolutly.... Amazing!!! This ship is the sweetest ever! It has detail like the ships from the movie and.. and.. I can't even describe how fabulous this is!! Keep Buildin!!!
BTW. Can you please give some pointers or a demo on how to build a basic ship, because I've been having some trouble.
Hey man how you doin'? I had a wierd dream last night that you're telling me that you destroyed your Dutchman! lol! wierd right!? any way I just want to say that if I build something like this I'll never destroy it... like I do with the cars that I like from my creations... just an advise :) take care buddy >>> peace,, Fofo
Most excellent! Yes, the real thing actually exists, you can see it on some Disney cruise or other. Also, if when you said 'cabine' you meant the captain's quarter's, it's spelled 'Cabin.' Sorry, that was me being stupid. Great MOC anyway!
Such an easy 5/5 I wish they did ratings out of 10 so I could differentiate this from most of the other 5's out there! Looks like this took days/weeks of planning. Look and learn people; don't rush your creations! A wonderful result from no doubt ages and ages of hard work. Cheers for your comments and congrats on a brilliant build : ) Ape
Hey Sebeus I, come check out my Davy Jones. I think you should add it on the Flying Dutchman, and if you do, please tell me about it and give me credit.. This is a very good creation. Nathan
Can I give a five billion? CAUSE IF I COULD I WOULD!!!!!!! You have a lot of legos. Like the guy below me, I am going to die of awesomeness! I love the stairs and crows nest and organ!!! It is very cool how you made the deck removable. This makes me feel like my creations are small and insignificant. Thanks.Hey were is the crew? Check out my stuff. Nathan
You've really out done youself on this one my friend. it's brillant! Tons of detail! Really deserves MOC of the Day. Keep it up! P.S. my next project is the death star interior. I'll keep you updated as I hope you keep me updated.
It's sad to see that you destroyed your other MOCs, but I think the Flying Dutchman is really a step forward. All the nifty connections and the spider-web-like front is really cool. The crow's nest is also cool, but maybe use some brown exo-force robot arms and claws instead of droid arms, that way it is a bit higher and the watchman isn't leaning over the edge. Cheers!
Wow! That's incredible! I'm really at a loss for words... I guess I'll try to get back to you if I think of something better to say. Happy birthday. Peace - Patrick
HAPPY BITHDAY!
Very nice good luck in the FCCC. Amazingly huge. Was I the inspierment for the lower gun deck 'mouths'? And I might have some ideas for the crew you can check my page later on today.

This is the biggest ship I have ever seen! It looks exactly like the movie! BTW, Happy b-day! :D
Dude... This is nearly perfect. If it was a little longer and had more plant stuff... But, everyone has trouble with the amount of peices. Hopefully you might be able to make it even better one day.
Let's get this over with: happy birthday!
Now, onto the ship. Even though I don't really like Pirate LEGOs, this beast made me fall in love with the theme! My favorite part is the staircase that hides the "nonsense" cannon, or the giant piano (would 'organ' be appropriate?), I can't decide.
The best ship ever made! I love the cabin detail, the organ, and how accesible this is. My favorite part is the way you made the demon gun ports with the vines. They look really scary and amazing. Wow this ship is so good. Next you should make The Black Pearl. Happy birthday, mine was on the 3rd of this month too. Enjoy today!
THIS my friend, is taking you to a new level at LEGO world!! because thru THIS you easily own and master ship building without a doubt... well, words will never describe how beautiful is THIS, i think Flying Dutchman can't be any better with Legos... i just can say here keep on this very high level, and... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! what a gift you gave yourself!! GREAT WORK. >>> peace.. fofo
Love this ship! It's your best yet and it looks exactly like in the movie! The interior is incredible, and I really like the triple guns! Great work on the hull too! And Happy Birthday!
