1646 o.C. Siege of Mountain Fortress
The big siege of King Udalrichs Mountain Fortress 1646 o.C.,between Black Army and Northern Kingdom
About this creation
First, thereíre 3 things to say:
1. This isnít a set like my other stuff, because itís just too big but an important scene of my fantasy world using some ideas i didnít use in the box sets.
2. Yes, i used the fortress in my Planeshift theme yet, but want to show it in a battle and with addidtional rooms and improvements.
3. Yes, itís definetely inspired by LotR:Two Towers but with different details.

About the castle

Itís the main mountain fortress of King Udalrich in the Northern Kingdom (Hint: Theme Introduction), so there isnít much to say about: Hidden in a mountain, defended by rocks, a long wall and a double catapult, youíll find a stable, a water well, the guard quartiers, an armory, the kingís treasure room, a knights hall, a secret alchemy labory and of course a functional trapdoor behind the main gates, if you move the stairs a bit. Under the trap you can find a small dungeon.

About the battle

Itís the big siege of 1646 o.C. where King Udalrichs northmen army and an elvish delegation faces the Black Army and its black mage (Hint: Theme Introduction; Main Chronology).
As said, weíve the brave axemen and warriors from the Northern Kingdom on the side of good, supported by a small elvish nomad group. The warriors use all kinds of axes, short swords, crossbows and depending on their position a round or a dragon shield. The elves just have 2 different units: The blue archers and the well-armored dark-grey Executers, who use also longswords but arenít as good at the bow as the archers. If youíd take a closer look at the scenes youíll find some special unique figures, who i just call ďHeroesĒ. The guy in chainmail with red beard and brown hair using sword and small shield is King Udalrich.
On the side of evil itís a little bit more complex: In fact, the Black Army is a wild mix of evil guys and many different units. The biggest part consists of skelletons, undead warriors and weaker demons, summoned by evil sorcerers in Deadwood. Other big troops are rogues serving the sorcerers and also stupid mercenaries from the Outlaw Hills. Most war machines were built by the bulls tribe or other bandit groups. Special units are the black lizard riding Shazzuru demon, the black riders and some unique men from wild races, who i just call ďEvil HeroesĒ. Warchief of the Black Army is the mysterious black mage.

The first fights are easy: The good guys try to kill as many as possible and to hold the evil guys away from the walls, while the undead use ladders and ballists to invade the fortress. A small group attacks the main gate, a stupid idea. On the green fields the war waggons are guarding the commanders and the bigger warmachines. But then the northern riders arrive and face the black riders.

Suddently, an explosive missile of a ballist reaches a weak point of the main wall, which explodes. Now, the elven warriors have a problem.
At same time, the warriors at the main building decides to give the gates up and prepares the next defending lines instead. King Udalrich and a young guy carry a big box with crossbows to the plaza and build barrikades with all stuff they could find.

In the meantime, the last skellettons kill most elven archers. The axemen escape to the plaza behind the barikade and becomes equipped with crossbows. Also at the maingate, the evil guys run into a trap and fall into the dungeons. The warmachines are already destroyed and the cavalry clears the fields form the last enemies. Kind Udalrich and some of his men survived. After the Northern Kingdom is safe again, he will travel to the south to meet King Leo III. Because the black mage escaped and will plan his next evil things...

Very rich scenes. Love'em! Have fun! [in response to your question on Castle Sindris Cliff; I used Photoshop's rubber stamp tool to multiply the built cliff face and base-plate.]
