The Loricatus
The Loricatus is a long range heavily armored reconnaissance craft.
About this creation
This is the Loricatus. ‘Loricatus’ is Latin for "wearing armor," a rather appropriate name for this heavily armored ship. This ship's primary function is to penetrate enemy lines, gathering important data about the enemy's fortifications and defenses. The ship is crewed by 1 pilot, and is accompanied by 2 ground crew members. This ship was built for Ryan Wood’s first Group MOC Study at the Classic Space forums.

The ship's sensory equipment is housed in the nose.

The duel engines produce a hefty amount of thrust.

Don't try to attack it. It's armed with 2 turrets of duel cannons...

   ...that pack a nasty punch.

A close-up of the upper cannon. The upper turret's configuration differs slightly from that of the lower turret.

The engines...a rather simple design. But they were a pain to make, since they contain a good bit of SNOT.

Considering that I finished the model at 2 A.M., be glad it even opens.

Hmm...don't stand in front of them.

The landing gear probably gave me more problems than anything else. Since the ship weighs a ton, I had a hard time finding gear that was retractable, fashionable, and strong enough to support the ship. In the end, duel clicky hinges won out.

I hate it when people ignore the undersides of ships.

The landing gear retracts quite smoothly.

   The reactor core.

The Pilot is well protected beneath multiple layers of armor...

...except when the hatch is open.

Lovely view of the landing gear there.

   I like shots with perspective...

   Here's the lower turret.

A good overall shot to give the layout.

A slightly deconstructed hatch area to show some of the cockpit detail.

Loricatus? Yes, it is a great name for it. It really looks like a truly armoured howering tank. I really like the color sceme and that you have kept all the multicolored parts inside which makes it look very realistic if you can say so about a space ship made of LEGOs :-) Keep up the good work. -Lasse

I too was surprised that something that heavily armed / armored would be a scout ship, but that doesn't take away the fact that it's way impressive. You definitely didn't ignore the bottom of the ship -- the greebling under the nose is fantastic, along with massive SNOT (did I just write that?)

Nice. I love the nacelles. The SNOTtage there is brilliantly executed. Although IMHO it makes more sense to have a recon ship be crazy fast (i.e. SR-71) than heavily armored, your construction and description make the ship's role believable.

Well thought out, well fluffed out, well constructed. A nice scout corvette. You paid nice attention to greeblage, some of it really brilliant, the turrets are especially well done. You get a big thumbs up. *sigh* to live in a country where I can get Lego cheap enough...

Wow. That's it. Wow. It looks a tad bit like Daniel Rubin's Sword of Michael. Except yours is so...so...deadly. You're truly a god among builders. Simply Amazing. - Phil
