Here is my version of the Sante Fe Super Chief passenger train. When TLC first announced that it would be selling this engine as a set, I decided to build my own version first. I had some "spyshots" to work from, but basically I just modeled my version as I normally do-- from schematics. Notice that I wasn't able to utilize the LEGO stickers, gray motor brick thingie, or the nice thin wall porthole elements. Here are a few more views:
After the set was released, I bought 6 so I could kit-bash them to make 2 additional "B" units (in addition to some Bricklink purchases;-) I took some pictures comparing my engine to TLC's Sante Fe set 10020, are here they are:
The Passenger Cars
My passenger cars are a refinement of a design I came up with in early 1999 when I created my first 8 wide trains. These pics below are taken on the GMLTC layout in the Spring of 2002 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
This is a real superb model of the Santa Fe super chief. This is way different from the company's one, as it looks more like the real thing. They should release your model rather than the current one.
A fine example of John Neal (Mr. 8-wide)'s building skills. An emphasis on a more accurate minifig scale and attention to detail bring this model to life. This loco stans a head above other 8-wide versions of the Santa Fe Super Chief.
