X-wing fighter
About this creation
Advanced X-wing fighter. Designed for better atmospheric performance and longer range. Model is 83 studs long, has approximately 3200 pieces, and weights 12 pounds.
This model only took about 8 days to design and build -- although those were some long days, working at times 20 hours straight.
The design was inspired by the X-wing in the Art of Star Wars book, hence the split engines. I wanted to emphasize the utilitarian aspect of this ship while still maintaining an interesting body, specifically the body taper, sloping sides, and the greeblie details. To accomplish the body taper I used the interleaved paneling technique which allows for taper in width, height, as well as side profile. The photos do not necessary do the model justice but I hope you get an idea of what it looks like.

Update 08/02/07 Okay after several emails asking if the canopy is MegaBlocks. It's the canopy from the X-Wing UCS here is link to the part on the Peeron database.

Heh, I believe it's the first time I see one of the old Technic figures here on MOCpages! Your X-Wing looks great, and the scale makes it even greater! |

I know it's advanced, but dude: That's one of the msot inaccurate X-wings ever. If you havven't said advanced I would write every bit you did wrong, and that was possible to make in this scale. Congrats on MOTD. |

Wow. Your LEGO collection has over 600,000 pieces? I have three words for you and they are capital space craft. Seriously, you could make a space craft every bit as big as the 1/40 IJN Yamato model that a guy by the name of Junpei Matsui built on MOC Pages. I would love to build one with you if you live near the San Diego/Oceanside area. By the way, nice job on both your X-Wing and your E-Wing. Also, is that your cat in that one picture? Oddly enough, I, too, had a fat gray tabby cat that loved me and that was also a lazy and laid back kitty. His name was Dexter and he loved being petted in my lap but he ran off into the woods one day and I had not seen him since. Thankfully, I have a new kitty named Star and, like Dexter, he is my constant companion. Sometimes, he even thinks that he is a dog! Go figure. Well, at any rate, please keep up the good work. |

Your technique of hiding one series of plates behind another to give the front its beautiful studless shape is genious. I demand more! |

Fantastic! The gentle angles are really nice. You just don't see that anywhere else (except on your other MOCS like the E-Wing). I wish you had some "intra-build" pics, just because I have no idea what the interleaving panel technique entails and now I'm dying of curiosity. In any case, it's truly inspired. Last thing: I know this is all subjective, but I question the sanity of anyone who marked this anything less than 5, whatever their specific gripes might be. As one commenter mentioned, this is an instance where there needs to be a 6 or 7. -N. |

Holy smokes, Brent!! Your techniques for angles and smooth surfaces are phenominal. This has got to be one or the finest stud-less MOC's I think I've seen. Just fantastic. |

Awesome, but the wings are a little stubby. However, how the s foils deploy is pretty slick, just looking at the photos prior makes one think that you didn't design s foils into the model. |

Truly, a work of art, like all your other mocs. My only beef would be the nose feels too fat at the end, but it doesn't detract from it's appeal in any way. |
