Zenith class attack strider; E variant.
Small ammo bins are an everpresent problem; the bigger the gun, the less shots you get.
About this creation
The basic Zenith chassis makes extensive use of kinetic weaponry; namely, a gauss cannon, a missile rack and a machinegun array. The problem with such weapons is that despite their immense damage potential they are often unused; Zenith Prime pilots are very pacifistic, going out of their way to avoid trouble. The cause of this is the limited ammunition supply, as pilots are afraid that if they use their weapons then and there, they may not have enough ammo to get them out of trouble later.

The Zenith E subtype fixes all that; it is armed almost exclusively with energy weapons, with a medium lasgun on the right arm and a particle beam cannon on the left, supported at range by a missile pod in the torso.

Pilots widely liked the new variant, praising its armour protection and agility, and many reports state that pilots that upgrade to the E are much more aggressive and less likely to allow a foe to escape, having been relieved of their ammunition woes.

Unfortunately, the type had a overheating problem that took quite a while to iron out: energy weapons in general and particle beams in particular have a very high heat output, and many early E types were rendered unusable because the extreme temperature had melted important joints and systems; it was cheaper to make a new one and send the old to the scrapheap than perform repairs.

The fault was finally fixed by the application of a number of prototype heat sinks to vulnerable areas, and both the heat sinks and the subtype became widely used. After that point in development, pilots no longer needed to worry about being melted or roasted alive by their own vehicles, and the improvement was quite popular.

Quoting mithryl dlarix Whenever I think of Zenith, I think of the Zenith wanzers from Front Mission. Anyhoo, don't worry, I know you didn't plagiarize or anything. Its been a long time since I've seen this style of shoulders though. By the way, soren is still alive and active on Flickr if you ever go that way.
I can't access flickr. It's an ISP thing. But as a matter of fact, the name and shoulders for this WERE based on the Zenith from the Front Mission series. Not an awful lot though, just a vague intentional similarity.

Quoting mithryl dlarix I know those shoulders! Those are Soren Roberts shoulders. These mecha get cooler and cooler with each one you make.
Soren Roberts? I've heard of him, but haven't seen anything of his recently; 'recently' meaning in the last few years because he wiped his mocpage. Actually, this here was the first in the Zenith line; the C and F variations came later.

You can borrow the whole thing if you want; as long as I get credit, I'm perfectly happy to have people use personal designs. After all, it is a good advertising method. There is an image that may help if you want to duplicate some of the design; 'tis over at http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/azazaza/Phobos/5.jpg. I don't consider the general shoulder shape very original; I probably saw a gundam or something with a similar shape and it just popped into my mind while I was making the arms. As a matter of fact, it was used in a dio: I was just fiddling with it one day, decided to put my Zephyr in and make them fight on my shelf. Added some junk, took some pictures and put it up as my first on the site.

Excellent shoulder design, I might borrow it in the future (giving you credit of course). I like the overall shape of this. Wasn't it used in a previous diorama? Either way, great job. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman
