A Messerschmitt Kabinenroller - an old German microcar
About this creation
This is a Messerschmitt Kabinenroller, an old german microcar. It was very difficult to built, because it is very round. My problems:
1. The "nose": The original car had a very round nose, and there aren't any round, big LEGO parts (except some Bionicle masks). I tried to solve this by using many 2-to-1-converters with their studs not on top.
2. The wheels: How can you mount wheels when there is no space neither for a wheel holder nor for a Technic axle?
It's very difficult. I added the wheel-holders with their studs not on top, and this was the solution! It ooked like the original car.
3. The fenders: The front of the fenders I mounted by a small Technic pin sticked between the top of the fender and the holes of the wheel holder. Details see here. The back part of the fender I clipped between four plates with different handles (ee pictures below). It's very instable...
4. The back wheels: I added them with a technic plate - construction in the middle of the car. The main problem was, that the whole back is mounted with the tuds not on top and so I couldn't use a "normal" way of mounting.
Hey! Great work on it! my dad has a few schmitts (my bro is dan the man) and I made a 1:10 scale messerschmitt :o here it is: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/213237
Hey, I know these !
My dad has a few of these funny little cars, ad I got to appreciate te way you've managed to build it at such a small scale , it's excellent !
I have seen one other lego messerschmitt, at a car museum in america, just slightly bigger than yours and black ...
Depending on what my buidling sponsor says, i might end up making a life-size one of these out of lego XD (te 1/3 lamborghini is costing enough so I don't know if it will happen...)
Nice to see somebody decided to make one of thse nice little old cars :)
