For GFLUG's 2008 Festival of the Masters show, our theme was "History of Transportation: Past, Present & Beyond". So I came up with this idea to do a old west town, with a steam train. I would build the old west town and Scott Miller would build the steam train. This is our collaborative display.
When I designed this, there are four basic buildings that appear in any classic western... a bank, saloon, general store, and jail. With this display, I wanted something simplistic, very (quickly) recognizable, almost doll house looking from the back.
Right before the show, I came into procession of a #6769 Fort Legorado, which I ended up cannibalizing for the western town. The local PaB supplied me with a lot of Modified 1 x 2 with Grill Bricks in brown, green, and light blay, to help create the slatted texture on the buildings.
The only real annoying thing, I wish I had time to finish a old fashion water tower to go along side the train... or a train station... or a cut-away of a old wooden fort, for the solders to be going to/coming from.
