The Other Shannon - Act II: The Chess Game
Otherwise known as "The Filler Between the Hook and the Climax."
About this creation
When last we saw our handsome heroes, Shannon Ocean, once-trusted friend of Shannon Young, had decided to betray his erstwhile host for the promise of power and more Lego -- the dastardly fiend! But palace coups never seem to go smoothly...

The spacemen have always considered the little Speedy unit to be an inseparable part of their faction, and never stop to consider that his allegiance may lie elsewhere. But in fact, Speedy remains loyal to his inventor.

As soon as the meeting in the Lounge devolves into an emotional sing-along of the old Beatles standard "Revolution," he sneaks off to warn Young.

"...and keep them out of sight of each other, got it?"

"Bleep-boop-bleep-bleep-bloop-beep!"
"He WHAT?!!"
"Beep-bloop-beep-beep-bloop!"
"That rotten sack of kangaroo crap! He doesn't know who he's dealing with! I'll disassemble him and never use his parts in other minifigs! He'll never make it back to Australia!"

"...he's got a pretty big collection of castle weapons -- spears, axes, crossbows..."
"Really? I've never seen him use them in a MOC."
"Then he shouldn't miss them when we steal them."

"What about getting at his collection? Everyone knows I can build circles around that overrated blowhard! I could build a weapon of unimaginable destructive power! It would blow his weak little mind!"
"Too risky. We don't have the time, and there'd be no way to hide it while building."

"Fair enough... What about communication? Do we have radios?"
"We're spacemen, sir. We've got our old walkie-talkies."
"Good. And can I get a map of this place or something? Those stupid signs out in the corridors are no help at all."

"I hate to say it, Mr. Young, but the spacemen may not be the only disgruntled figs here. If you don't mind, I think I'll go around and quietly feel out the various camps, see who we can and can't count on."
"Oof, it's good to get that heavy crown off. Now where did I put my hair... what was that? Oh yeah, good idea, Zaius. Hmm, Other Shannon will be sending out feelers of his own, won't he? Especially since the spacemen have no weapons. What I need is a way to distract him..."

"Mister Ocean? Oooh, it is you! Come in girls, it's really him!"
"Huh? Wha..."

"Oh, Mister Ocean, how I've wanted you so!"
"I just love your accent!"
"Is it true Australian men go down under?"
"Wait... hold on... I am married..."
"And I'm sure she's a lovely woman, I really mean that... but is she three women at once?"

"Begone, head spaceman guy, get to work, I think you can handle things from here! Chop-chop!"

"The animals are with you. That's based on the fact that they know you like most animals better than you like most people. They don't see quite that level of support from the traitor Ocean."
"Okay."

"The Corporate Military is solidly behind you. None of them want to drive any weird Australian animal machines. And we still have a Leadbelly somewhere that we can take out of mothballs."
"I knew it would be handy to keep one around, just in case."

"Moving on... The ninjas and the pirates really don't care, they'll fight for whoever provides the best bribe. But once someone recruits one of them, the other faction will line up on the opposing side just because, and probably for nothing."
"Make sure we get the ninjas then, before Ocean does. I have a lot more of them."

"Don't think I'm not glad of the hide-a-bed, but what about blankets?"
"Oh, we'll keep you warm, Mister Ocean!"

"The castle guys and forestmen are iffy. While they feel neglected without a castle or anything, many are fairly pragmatic. They see that your collection is much bigger than his and that the chance, at least, for a good castle someday is better here."
"All right... so far we're ahead on weapons."

"Yes, well... he's got the wizards on his side for sure."
"Damn! He'll have magic! That hurts, Zaius."
"They're really pissed you haven't built them that cool wizard MOC you promised. You went to the trouble of collecting them and bringing them all together in one place, and nothing. It's been a long time now."
"Garrrh, curse me and my procrastination!"

"Now teach me the Australian Crawl!"
"Oh... ah... wow...phew! In a minute... let me catch my breath..."
(The following image has been censored for your protection)

"It sounds like we have superior numbers and arms, Zaius. I say we hit him now, while he's still unprepared. A pre-emptive strike! The longer we wait, the stronger he grows."
"Flawless logic there, sir."
"Machiavelli's Prince and Sun Tzu's Art of War aren't on my bookshelf just for looks, my friend. That Gollum impersonator messed with the wrong guy! Let's roll! Oh, and make a note to have this flooring replaced -- I don't know what I was thinking there..."

Can the shrewd strategist Young thwart the revolutionaries in time? Or does the wily Aussie have a few tricks left in his pouch? Be sure to tune in next time for the predictable, formulaic conclusion of The Other Shannon to find out!

These comics are hilarious. I love all the dialogue about dissatisfied factions of minifigures. Great job!

Quoting Brady G How'd you make the four armed guy? I'm sure he appeared somewhere else in the endless corridors of the Skunk Works, but I'm not all through my "Recap of Shannon" project.
That is the High Bishop of Coleoidea, made by Lee Jones, first seen here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/40552. I traded my rare Watto minifig to Dr. Jones for the Bishop and 150 old light gray 2x4 bricks. Best trade I ever made.

Luckily, I don't have to wait for the conclusion, as it already been posted. It's the advantage of being absent for more than a month. The disadvantage is missing great stuff like this. Act III, here I come!

Nothing short of your usual mind-blowing, super-ultra, epic, story telling/MOC-building combos. Thanks Shan, I'm on the edge of my seat! (Side note: ya know, my wife has a thrown room that's remarkably similar.)

Quoting Brian Kescenovitz who are your fleshies gonna side with?
My peachers get dismembered, their body parts sealed up in their own separate quarantine baggie, and buried in the deepest dungeon of The Skunk Works so their foul disease can't infect the rest of my collection. They aren't in any position to take sides. If Ocean could find them and put them together, I think it's safe to say they'd be fanatically anti-Young -- oops, I've said too much!

At the risk of being horibly one bombed, I say Ocean wins! But that's only because I've always liked Classic Space. And how could you have more ninjas than pirates? Oh, right. Goldman and his ninja chicks. *Cough* Anyways, great build here, the throne room was awesome - Callum

I'm agree with Chris ! This is Magic, man. And now there's also hot chicks héhé - "We're spacemen, sir. We've got our old walkie-talkies" really makes me laugh ! - In term of build, there's too much to say, so let's say it's awesome, excellent and well, fantastic ! Can't wait for the next Act !

the studded red carpet in the throne room is brilliant, as well as the story off course! Can't wait for act three. I think it would be apropriate to end the story with a MOCduel?!

Unfortunately The Prince and The Art of War on my bookshelf ARE just for looks. I like to put them next to TekWar and Garfield at Large and wonder what kind of an impression it makes on people. Fantastic work, by the way. Anxiously awaiting the third installment.

Quoting Chas Irish So you had the whole story before you made the sets? If so why did it take 6 days to post this?
I didn't finish the throne room until last night -- that room wasn't needed for Act I. After Act III is up I'll make a kind of "director's commentary" post which will answer a lot of questions.

Actually all the different sets were built separately over the course of several months, and no two were ever intact at the same time.

Awesome backdrops and walls, it's astounding. And here I thought a trip to a Lego Store to buy oodles of light bley 2 x 2 tiles was enough… now I know I was wrong. Well! Guess I'll have to head back to one in the near future. Alternatively, I could get a job… T_T

Just like in the holy trilogy, the second one is always the best. Just don't put Ewoks in the third one and we should be good. You know, when little SigOcean left Chicago all those months ago, I thought is was going to be Kelso that corrupted him the most. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and ShannO has been absolutely corrupted (Australian crawl? And I thought I'd heard 'em all?). Can't wait for the climactic conclusion... although I think ShannO there already had his. ~ Chris.
